Chapter 8

The sun dipped below the horizon, casting the Vale estate in the soft, luxurious glow of the interior chandeliers. The bright, elegant video colors of the mansion shifted from vibrant daytime hues to rich, deep evening shadows.
In the underground situation room, beneath the polished marble floors of the main house, Sebastian stood over a massive, illuminated map of the city’s territories. Surrounding him were his five most trusted capos, men who had bled for the Vale name.
"The Sterling faction is mobilizing," Marcus reported, pointing to three distinct locations on the map. "They have moved heavily armed crews to the eastern docks, the warehouse district, and the central financial hub. They are preparing for a coordinated strike."
"They believe... a show of force... will bring me to the negotiating table," Sebastian mused, his American accent slow and terrifyingly calm. He leaned forward, resting his tattooed hands on the edge of the map table. "They misunderstand... the nature of this war."
"What are your orders, Boss?" another capo asked, his eyes gleaming with anticipation.
"We do not... fight them in the streets," Sebastian commanded, his cold, sharp eyes scanning the faces of his men. "That is what they expect. We strike the head. Tonight, you will execute synchronized raids on their three primary money-laundering fronts. Burn the ledgers. Seize the cash. Leave the buildings standing, but ensure their infrastructure is entirely crippled."
"And the men guarding the fronts?" Marcus asked.
"If they surrender, let them walk," Sebastian replied, his voice devoid of mercy. "If they draw... eliminate them. I want the Sterling patriarch to wake up tomorrow morning with no money and no army."
As the capos dispersed to execute the orders, Sebastian remained in the quiet room for a moment longer. He checked his wristwatch. The gears of war were turning, but his mind was drawn irresistibly upstairs, to the beautiful woman who had inadvertently ignited the spark.
He ascended the hidden staircase, emerging back into the opulent warmth of the main house. He walked toward his master suite, but as he passed the grand library, the sound of soft, melodic humming caught his attention.
The heavy oak doors were slightly ajar. Sebastian pushed them open silently.
Tessa was sitting in a plush leather armchair by the roaring fireplace. She was no longer in her sophisticated black maid dress. Instead, she wore a simple, elegant silk robe that highlighted her slender figure and fair skin. She had a book resting in her lap, but she wasn't reading. She was staring into the flames, her softly square face glowing in the firelight.
Sebastian stepped into the room, his polished leather shoes making a soft sound against the rug.
Tessa turned her head, her expressive eyes lighting up instantly as she saw him. She stood up, abandoning the book. "Sebastian. You're working late."
"The business... requires it," Sebastian said, walking slowly toward her. The exhaustion of the day seemed to melt away in her presence. "I handled the issue with your brother. The bookmakers have been permanently persuaded to forget his name."
Tessa gasped softly, her hands flying to her mouth. Tears of profound relief welled in her eyes. "I don't know how to thank you. You have given me everything."

"I haven't given you everything," Sebastian murmured, closing the final few feet between them. He looked down into her eyes, the charming, romantic aesthetic completely taking over his features. "Not yet."
Without another word, Sebastian reached out, his tattooed hands gently framing her face. He lowered his head, capturing her full lips in a deep, desperate kiss. The explosion of passion was absolute, erasing the boundaries between the Mafia Boss and the housemaid, binding them together in the shadow of the impending war.
