Chapter 18

The flight back to the Bellori estate was silent, the tension of the assault finally bleeding away into the cold night air. Orson sat in the cabin, removing his tactical gear, his handsome face returning to the composed, elegant mask of the aristocratic Don.
He had eradicated the immediate threat, completely destabilized his greatest rival, and solidified his absolute dominance over the eastern seaboard in a single, flawlessly executed night of violence.
When the helicopter touched down on the pristine lawns of the estate, the bright, cinematic security lighting illuminated a fortress that had survived the storm.
Orson walked down the ramp, handing his weapons to the waiting armory staff. He bypassed the main foyer, moving purposefully toward the secure access elevator that led to the underground bunker.
He entered the complex biometric code, the heavy steel doors hissing open to reveal the brightly lit, comfortable interior of the safe room.
Mara was asleep on a plush sofa, wrapped securely in a soft blanket, her tiny hand resting near the plastic inhaler. Several female staff members sat quietly nearby, keeping a vigilant watch over the precious heir.
When Orson stepped into the room, the staff immediately stood, offering respectful nods to the Boss who had just secured their lives.
Orson walked over to the sofa, dropping to his knees. The imposing, dangerous warlord vanished entirely, replaced by the profound, overwhelming love of a devoted father. He gently stroked Mara's soft, dark hair, feeling the steady, reassuring warmth of her breathing.

He leaned down and pressed a long, gentle kiss to her forehead. The violence, the blood, the ruthless executions—they were all necessary evils, tools he wielded without hesitation to ensure that this child would never know fear again.
"We are safe, little one," Orson whispered into the quiet room. "The monsters are gone."
