Chapter 4

As Claudia’s hand darted forward, Adrian reacted with the brutal, flawless precision of a man who commanded an underworld empire. He dropped the photograph and the newborn bracelet securely into his jacket pocket. In the same fluid motion, his heavily tattooed hand shot out and caught Claudia’s wrist in a vise-like grip.

Claudia gasped, her eyes widening as the immense, masculine strength of her younger brother halted her momentum instantly.

"Adrian, you are hurting me!" Claudia hissed, struggling uselessly against his iron grip.

Adrian did not say a word. The silence in the bright, cinematic study was absolute and terrifying. He tore the pink-and-white patchwork blanket directly from her other hand. With cold, calculated efficiency, he wrapped the thick, faded fabric firmly around both of Claudia’s forearms. He pulled her hands together forcefully in front of her, using the blanket as an improvised, unbreakable restraint.

"Let me go this instant!" Claudia shrieked, her aristocratic facade entirely shattered as she thrashed against the bindings.

Adrian ignored her screams. He stepped into her personal space and shoved her backward, forcing her to take several rapid, stumbling steps directly away from the center of the room. He pushed her until there was a vast, undeniable distance between her and where Elena and Ruby stood cowering near the door.

Claudia struggled frantically, her high heels slipping on the polished marble. She twisted her wrists, but Adrian had wrapped the fabric with expert, punishing tightness. She could not free her hands, and she could not reach the photograph or the bracelet now secured in his pocket.

No dialogue was spoken during the physical confrontation. The only sounds were the sharp scuffing of shoes against the stone floor and Claudia’s ragged, panicked breathing.

Two massive, white American bodyguards in dark suits stepped silently through the open mahogany doors. Seeing their Boss in a physical altercation with the estate administrator, they did not hesitate. They moved into the room and silently blocked Claudia’s exit, their broad shoulders forming an impenetrable wall of muscle and tailored wool.

Adrian finally stepped back from his sister, leaving her bound and isolated in the center of the room. He smoothed the unbuttoned collar of his dress shirt, the artistic tattoos on his neck flexing as he took a slow, deep breath. The charming, romantic look of his wavy hair now framed the face of a cold, merciless executioner.

He slowly reached into his pocket and retrieved the tiny, clear plastic newborn identification bracelet.

Elena stood frozen near the doorway, her hands resting protectively over Ruby’s small shoulders. The twenty-six-year-old maid watched the scene unfold with sheer, unadulterated terror, entirely unaware of the catastrophic secrets hidden within her daughter's only possession.

"Mr. Blackwood," Elena whispered, her American accent trembling violently. "I don't understand. What is happening?"

Adrian did not look at the maid. He turned the tiny newborn bracelet over in his large, tattooed hand. The bright natural light from the windows caught the faded black ink printed on the plastic strip.

Adrian stared at the letters. His sharply defined jawline locked into stone.
