Chapter 10

The morning sun rose, bringing a fresh, luminous, and airy light back to the city. The sky was a brilliant blue, clear and optimistic, a stark contrast to the absolute ruin of the Vance family.

Maya stood by the massive windows of the Sterling penthouse, a cup of black coffee in her hand. She wore a sleek, white tailored dress today, looking fresh, polished, and completely in control. The vivid, rich colors of the city sprawling below her felt like a kingdom she had just reclaimed.

Julian stepped into the room, holding a leather folder.

"The transfer is complete," Julian announced, a tone of deep satisfaction in his voice. "The Vance ports are fully integrated into our network. The banks have frozen Richard's personal accounts. He is effectively bankrupt."

Maya took a slow sip of her coffee, her fair, rosy skin catching the morning light. "And the estate?"

"The foreclosure notices are being served as we speak," Julian smiled. "He will be evicted by the end of the week."

Maya turned away from the window, walking to the large oak desk in the center of the room. She set her coffee down. "He will try to fight the custody of Lily. He will use the courts to drag this out, hoping to bleed us publicly."

"He has no money for lawyers, Maya," Julian assured her. "And no judge in this city will rule against the Sterling family."

"I don't want it to reach a judge," Maya stated, her voice firm. "I want him completely broken. I want him to sign away his rights voluntarily."

Julian frowned slightly. "How do you propose we make him do that?"

Maya picked up a sleek, silver remote from the desk and pressed a button. A large, flat-screen television on the wall sprang to life. It displayed a paused video. It was the footage Vanessa Cole had taken—the clear, high-definition video of Richard violently shoving Maya's face into the cake, while Lily screamed in terror.

"Vanessa was very eager to trade this video in exchange for keeping her own family's businesses off our target list," Maya explained, a cold, calculating light in her eyes.

"You want to release it to the press?" Julian asked.

"No," Maya replied, her voice dangerously smooth. "I want you to send it to Richard. And attach a message. Tell him that if he does not sign full, uncontested custody of Lily over to me by noon today, this video goes to every major news outlet, every business partner, and every rival syndicate in the country. Let him know that his legacy won't just be bankruptcy; it will be global humiliation."

Julian looked at his niece, a profound sense of awe washing over him. She was not just a survivor; she was a brilliant, ruthless strategist.

"It will be done," Julian said, bowing his head respectfully.

As Julian turned to leave, his encrypted phone vibrated in his pocket. He pulled it out, glancing at the screen. He stopped in the doorway, his brow furrowing in confusion.

"What is it?" Maya asked, noticing his hesitation.

"It's an incoming call on the old, secure line," Julian said, his voice tense. "The line your father used for emergencies. Only three people in the world have this number. You, me, and..."

Maya's heart skipped a beat. The air in the bright, luminous room suddenly felt electric.

"Answer it," Maya commanded softly.

Julian pressed the button, putting the call on speakerphone. Static crackled for a moment, followed by the sound of heavy, labored breathing.

"Julian," a deep, raspy voice echoed through the room. A voice that sounded impossible, a voice that had been dead for ten years. "Is my daughter safe?"

Maya gasped, dropping her coffee cup. It shattered on the marble floor, the dark liquid spilling across the pristine white tiles, mirroring the beautiful, chaotic, and completely unpredictable new world she had just stepped into.
