Chapter 9

The sun began to dip lower in the sky, casting long, dramatic shadows across the heavily fortified Bellandi estate, though the interior remained flooded with bright, cinematic white light. Lorenzo stood in his private study, a massive room lined with dark mahogany bookshelves and rich leather furniture. He had changed his ruined suit jacket, now wearing only his tailored vest and unbuttoned dress shirt.
He poured himself two fingers of scotch from a crystal decanter, the ice clinking softly in the quiet room. He didn't drink. He simply stared at the amber liquid, his jaw tight.
The heavy oak doors opened, and his lead capo, Thomas, stepped into the room. The forty-five-year-old white American man wore a grim expression on his fair face.
"The guests have been processed and escorted off the property, Boss," Thomas reported, standing respectfully near the desk. "The estate is on full lockdown. Marcus and Victoria are secured in the basement holding cells. But we have a significant problem."
"Speak," Lorenzo commanded, his deep, raspy voice filling the room.
"Before we confiscated Marcus's phone, he managed to send an encrypted transmission," Thomas explained, his American accent tense. "He wasn't acting alone, Lorenzo. He’s been coordinating with the Chicago syndicate for months. They promised to back his play for the throne in exchange for the western ports."
Lorenzo slowly lowered the glass to the desk. He leaned forward, resting his tattooed hands flat on the polished wood. "He sold out his own family... for a promise of power."
"It gets worse," Thomas warned, stepping closer. "The Chicago outfit had men positioned near the city limits, waiting for Marcus to give the signal that the coup was successful. When he went dark, they realized the plan failed. They are mobilizing, Boss. They are viewing this as a moment of weakness."
Lorenzo let out a slow, dark chuckle that contained absolutely no humor. The sound sent chills down the spine of his capo.
"They view me... as weak," Lorenzo whispered, his cold, intimidating eyes narrowing into lethal slits. "Because I chose... to protect my daughter."
"They have a massive standing army, Lorenzo," Thomas cautioned. "If we go to war over this, the streets will run red. The Commission might step in."
"The Commission... can burn," Lorenzo stated, his voice dropping into a register of pure, concentrated ice. He stood up, his deeply masculine, intimidating presence radiating through the study. "If Chicago wants a war, I will give them an apocalypse."
He walked around the desk, his polished leather shoes making slow, deliberate sounds against the hardwood floor.
"Thomas," Lorenzo said, stopping inches from his capo. "I want you to mobilize the strike teams. Arm every soldier on the payroll. We are not going to wait for Chicago to breach our borders. We are going to take the fight to their front door."
May you like
"A preemptive strike?" Thomas asked, a fierce, loyal fire igniting in his eyes.
"Total eradication," Lorenzo corrected softly. "I want their warehouses raided. I want their lieutenants neutralized. By midnight tonight, I want the Chicago outfit to understand exactly what it costs to threaten the Bellandi bloodline."
