Chapter 20

The incredibly bright, flashing lights of Apex Global’s private medical convoy heavily illuminated the dark harbor as skilled paramedics carefully attended to David in the back of an armored ambulance. Jocelyn sat protectively beside him, her soft hands tightly holding his bruised, violently trembling fingers. "You’re really here," David whispered weakly, his tired eyes frantically scanning her face as if she were a fleeting mirage. "I honestly thought I was dead. I thought they would ruthlessly keep me in that black site cell forever." "I told you," Jocelyn said softly, hot tears finally breaking through her previously unbreakable steely facade. "I’m taking you home." "Richard," David coughed painfully, wincing as the paramedics adjusted his bandages. "He callously sold me out. He purposely sent me there." "Richard is currently rotting in a federal custody cell, officially facing treason and bribery charges," Jocelyn assured him, wiping a joyful tear from her cheek. "Katherine is definitely going to a minimum-security penitentiary for severe corporate fraud, and Eleanor is hopelessly living on a sharply clipped coupon budget." David miraculously managed a weak, genuinely incredulous laugh. "You took down the entire empire?" "I aggressively bought the empire," Jocelyn corrected, a fierce, undeniable light burning intensely in her eyes. "Because Katherine viciously shoved our innocent five-year-old daughter out of a chair." David squeezed her hand with surprising strength. "Where is Clara?" "She’s securely at the safe house. Peacefully sleeping," Jocelyn smiled warmly. "She actually thinks she’s getting massive pancakes at the park tomorrow. We’re definitely going to be there." Outside the vehicle, Marcus approached the ambulance doors confidently. "Jocelyn, the local police are arriving shortly to collect Julian Vance and his remaining mercenaries. We’ve successfully scrubbed our entire presence from the facility." "Good," Jocelyn said. She stood up proudly, looking out over the dark waters. The Keller dynasty was nothing but ash. She looked back at her husband. "Let's go home."
