Chapter 3

The silence in the grand dining room was a physical, suffocating pressure. The tall ivory candles flickering inside their silver candelabras seemed to be the only things moving in the entire, luminous space. The clear lighting left absolutely no shadows for the truth to hide within.

Estelle shifted smoothly in her champagne velvet chair, attempting to cement the narrative before Liora could defend herself. She met Cameron’s cold, intimidating gaze with a faint, knowing smile. She kept the diamond bracelet pinched elegantly between her fingers, treating it like a triumphant trophy.

"You trust Liora too much," Estelle stated softly, her American accent dripping with condescending superiority.

Her eyes frantically searched Cameron’s angular expression for a sign of agreement, silently urging him to play along and execute the brutal discipline expected of a mafia boss facing a thieving servant. She needed him to turn his attention away from her and order the housemaid's immediate dismissal—and inevitable physical punishment.

Cameron did not return her smile. He did not look at his fiancée.

Instead, he kept his cold, sharp eyes locked entirely on the housemaid standing beside his right shoulder. The refined artistic tattoos across his hands flexed as he rested his knuckles on the edge of the polished walnut table.

Liora maintained intense, unyielding eye contact with Cameron. Her heart raced like a trapped bird. She knew the extreme danger of crossing Estelle Shaw, a woman whose family commanded a powerful syndicate of their own. But looking into Cameron's perceptive eyes, Liora refused to let the impossible, unspoken connection between them be severed by a cheap trick.

Her inner brows lifted slightly in a profound expression of wounded disbelief. Moisture gathered rapidly along her lower eyelids, making her beautiful eyes shine brilliantly under the cascading crystal chandeliers.

She took a small, shallow breath before answering, terrified but determined.

"You know I wouldn't."

Her voice was soft, fragile, but devastatingly clear in the silent room. She didn't offer excuses or elaborate defenses. She simply stated a truth that challenged the very foundation of their unspoken feelings.

Cameron’s breath caught in his broad chest. He noticed the profound hurt radiating from Liora’s delicate features. The brief flicker of uncertainty that had clouded his judgment vanished instantly, replaced by a cold, calculating clarity. He knew her character. He knew her soul.

Moving with lethal fluidity, Cameron rose slowly from his champagne velvet chair. He drew it out slightly, placing his towering, broad-shouldered frame deliberately beside Liora. He stood tall in his dark tailored suit, waiting for the explanation he knew was missing.

Before anyone could process the sheer magnitude of the mafia boss taking the side of a servant, a small voice broke the tableau.

Milo, sitting rigidly in his small dinner jacket, slowly turned his head. The six-year-old boy looked directly at Estelle, bypassing his father's imposing figure. His small fingers tightened desperately around the white linen napkin in his lap. His brows drew together, and he spoke with a quiet, profound confusion that cut straight to the bone.

"You said to hide it."

The words hit the room with the force of a detonating bomb. A collective, quiet gasp rippled through the fifty elite guests.

Cameron froze. His entire body went rigid. He looked briefly at Liora, the last lingering shadow of doubt giving way to quiet, immense regret for ever questioning her.

Slowly, terrifyingly, Cameron’s eyes shifted. The movement was predatory, his gaze moving first toward Estelle, followed by a slight, deliberate turn of his head. His sharply defined jaw firmed until the bone threatened to snap under the pressure. His mouth became completely still, settling into a hard, unforgiving line.

He held Estelle’s eyes in a cold, steady stare that promised absolute destruction. The mafia boss said nothing. His silence was infinitely more dangerous than a scream, stripping away her diamonds, her satin gown, and her lies, exposing the cruel, manipulative monster trembling beneath.
