Chapter 14

"I will," Liora promised, her expressive brows drawn together in fierce determination. "Please be careful, Cameron." The use of his first name, spoken with such raw, genuine concern, sent a sharp, electric jolt through his chest. "I will return," Cameron swore softly. He stepped out of the bunker, the heavy steel doors sliding shut and locking with a resounding metallic clang. Cameron did not head toward the main firefight at the front gates. He utilized the servant's corridors, moving silently through the shadows until he emerged on the western flank of the estate. He slipped into the freezing night air, bypassing the illuminated areas. The Shaw mercenaries were focused entirely on the main assault, completely unaware that the most dangerous man in the city was flanking them in the dark. He reached the edge of the security floodlights. He withdrew a specialized, high-yield explosive charge from his tactical harness. "Did you believe you could park on my driveway without paying the toll?" Cameron whispered to the night. He armed the charge and threw it with perfect, athletic precision. The device sailed through the freezing air, landing directly beneath the fuel tank of the armored transport. Cameron turned his back on the vehicle and began walking calmly toward the mansion. The explosion was catastrophic. The armored transport erupted in a blinding, deafening ball of fire, lifting entirely off its wheels before crashing down in a twisted heap of burning metal. The concussive shockwave shattered the remaining glass in the western wing and threw the Shaw mercenaries violently to the ground.
