Chapter 19

Emily abandoned the multi-million dollar contracts instantly. The terrifying, cold Mafia boss vanished entirely, replaced by the profoundly devoted mother. She dropped to her knees on the plush Persian rug, catching her son and pulling him securely against her chest.
"Hello, my sweet boy," Emily whispered, burying her face in his soft, clean hair. She inhaled the scent of his innocence, feeling the heavy, suffocating weight of the past few weeks finally lift from her shoulders.
"Can you read this to me?" Ethan asked, holding up the book with his bright blue eyes wide and hopeful.
"I would love nothing more," Emily smiled, standing up and lifting him effortlessly into her arms.
She carried him over to the massive leather sofa in the center of the study. Marcus quietly excused himself, closing the heavy doors to give the Boss and her heir complete privacy.
As Emily read the story, her deep, soothing voice filling the quiet room, Ethan leaned his head against her shoulder. The trauma of his captivity was slowly fading, replaced by the absolute, unshakeable certainty that his mother was an invincible fortress.
Emily looked down at her son, her heart fierce with protective devotion. She had walked through fire, dismantled a corrupt patriarchy, and burned her enemies to ashes to secure this exact moment. She knew the world outside the estate was brutal and unforgiving, but she was its apex predator.

"I love you too, Ethan," Emily promised. "More than anything in this world."
