Chapter 14

The Grand Continental Hotel was an opulent fortress, its grand ballroom repurposed for the Commission tribunal. The cinematic lighting of the room was pristine, casting a sharp glare over the long, polished mahogany table where five veteran Mafia bosses sat. They were powerful, arrogant men in expensive suits, expecting to intimidate a grieving wife into surrendering her territory.
The heavy double doors swung open. Emily stepped into the room, moving with the terrifying, fluid grace of an apex predator. She was flanked by Marcus and six heavily armed, elite operators. She did not wait to be addressed. She walked directly to the head of the table, projecting an aura of absolute, unyielding dominance.
"Emily Moretti," Don Salvatore, the eldest boss, sneered. "You have overthrown your acting underboss and assaulted the sister of the Chicago syndicate leader. You have brought chaos to our borders."
"I brought discipline to my house," Emily corrected smoothly, her volume incredibly low but echoing with lethal authority. She dropped a thick, leather-bound folder onto the table.
"Inside that folder," Emily stated, "are the European ledgers. For five years, I personally secured the international shipping routes. I quadrupled the revenue of this entire Commission. While I bled overseas, my husband chained my six-year-old son to a doghouse and allowed his mistress to squander our wealth."

The bosses opened the folder. The irrefutable proof of Ryan's embezzlement and catastrophic incompetence was laid bare.
"He broke the laws of our bloodline," Emily whispered. "He is no longer a Boss. And if any of you attempt to defend him, I will cut your European supply lines permanently by midnight."
