Chapter 5

The cinematic lighting of the second-floor hallway felt intensely hyper-realistic as Vittorio closed the final few feet between himself and his mother. Donatella held her ground, her chin raised in a posture of aristocratic defiance. She had ruled the Mancini family alongside her late husband for forty years, and she fundamentally believed she was untouchable. She believed her blood, her status as the matriarch, formed an impenetrable shield against her son's legendary wrath.

She was catastrophically wrong.

Vittorio did not stop to argue. He did not ask for a further explanation. The time for diplomacy had died the moment his daughter was shoved to the floor.

As soon as he was within striking distance, Vittorio shifted his weight with terrifying, explosive speed. The deeply masculine, powerful frame of the Mafia boss uncoiled like a striking viper. He drew his right arm back, his chest expanding beneath his open-collar dress shirt.

He delivered one brutal, devastating open-handed slap directly across Donatella’s face.

There was no dialogue. The sound of the impact cracked like a gunshot, a deafening, violent explosion of flesh against flesh that shattered the pristine silence of the mansion.

The sheer kinetic force of the blow was absolute. It lifted the sixty-seven-year-old woman completely off her designer heels. Donatella’s head snapped violently sideways, her heavy pearl necklace tearing loose and scattering across the floor.

She stumbled forcefully backward, entirely out of control, her elegant designer outfit twisting awkwardly. She hurtled blindly into the large stack of moving boxes that Rocco had piled near the doorway.

The impact was catastrophic. The heavy cardboard boxes buckled and collapsed under her weight. Several boxes tumbled from the top of the stack, crashing down around her, spilling expensive whiskey bottles, ledgers, and clothing across the thick carpet.

Donatella collapsed heavily into the wreckage. She hit the floor with a pathetic, breathless gasp, tangled in cardboard and her own ruined pride. The bright, rosy skin of her cheek instantly blossomed into an angry, dark red welt.

The entire hallway went completely, suffocatingly silent.

Greta, the maid, pressed her hands over her mouth, her eyes wide with unadulterated horror as she backed against the wall. The two White American bodyguards stood absolutely paralyzed, their hands hovering near their jackets but refusing to draw on the Boss.

Rocco’s arrogant smirk vanished instantly. His fair skin turned the color of ash. He stared at his mother writhing on the floor among his broken boxes, his brain desperately struggling to process the reality of what had just occurred. The untouchable matriarch had just been physically dismantled in less than three seconds.

Vittorio stood perfectly still over the wreckage. His breathing was slow and entirely controlled. He flexed his right hand, the heavy gold signet ring gleaming under the bright, cinematic light. He did not look at Rocco; his cold, intimidating eyes remained locked on the woman struggling to push herself up from the carpet. The message was delivered with absolute clarity: in this house, there was only one ruler.
