Chapter 10

The morning sun broke over the horizon, casting a natural, bright, and cinematic light across the sprawling Vale estate. The dark, terrifying shadows of Christmas Eve were banished, replaced by the clean whites and warm golden reflections shimmering across the freshly fallen snow outside the massive windows.

Inside the master suite, the atmosphere was a sanctuary of profound peace. The room was bathed in the soft morning light, illuminating the rich silk drapes and the carved walnut furniture. Ella lay exhausted in the center of the massive four-poster bed, her dark hair splayed across the pillows. The black maid dress was gone, replaced by a soft, luxurious cream nightgown provided by the estate staff. Beside her, resting securely in a new, pristine bassinet, was their infant son.

Beckett stood by the window, having shed his suit jacket and rolled up the sleeves of his crisp white shirt, revealing the intricate artistic tattoos covering his powerful forearms. He held a cup of black coffee, his sharp jawline catching the morning light as he watched the perimeter guards patrolling the snowy grounds below.

The political fallout of the night's violence had already begun. The Shaw syndicate was mobilizing, demanding the release of Clarissa, and the commission was demanding answers for the breach of the Sterling compound. But as Beckett stood in the bright morning light, looking at the woman and child sleeping safely in his bed, he knew he was ready to burn the entire city to ash to protect them.

Ella stirred, her expressive eyes fluttering open. She looked around the opulent room, panic momentarily seizing her before her gaze landed on the bassinet, and then on the towering, masculine figure standing by the window.

"Beckett," Ella whispered, her voice husky from sleep.

Beckett turned immediately, setting his coffee cup down on the windowsill. He walked slowly toward the bed, dropping to one knee on the thick Persian rug. The terrifying aura of the mafia boss vanished entirely, replaced by the profound, unprotected vulnerability of a man looking at the family he had finally claimed.

"Are you unharmed, Ella?" Beckett asked, his deep voice softening into a gentle, intimate rumble.

"I am safe," Ella smiled, reaching out to touch the side of his face. The very short stubble scratched pleasantly against her soft palm. "Is the house secure?"

"Do you believe any rival family will dare approach these walls after what we did on the coast last night?" Beckett asked, leaning into her touch.

"They will come for her," Ella murmured, referring to the woman locked in the basement.

"Let them come," Beckett replied coldly. "I will handle her father. I will handle the commission. You will never have to worry about them again."

He reached out, his tattooed hand gently resting on the soft blanket covering their sleeping son.

"You are never putting on that uniform again, Ella," Beckett promised, his dark eyes burning with an intense, quiet devotion. "You are the mother of my heir. You are everything to me."

Ella looked up at him, her heart soaring as the implication of his words settled over her. The fear that had gripped her for weeks was finally melting away, replaced by an undeniable, profound certainty.

"Will you stay with me?" Beckett asked, his voice dropping into a register of raw vulnerability that no one else in the world had ever heard. "Will you build a life with me that no one in this city will ever dare to threaten?"

"I will stay with you forever, Beckett," Ella whispered.

Beckett leaned forward, closing the distance between them entirely, and pressed a deep, lingering kiss to her lips. The war was looming on the horizon, but as he held the brave, beautiful woman in his arms, Beckett knew his empire was finally invincible.
