Chapter 5

The catastrophic destruction of the planting tables left the memorial garden in a state of breathless shock. The bright, cinematic lighting illuminated the carnage perfectly—the shattered ceramic pots, the spilled dark soil, and the unconscious, bleeding form of Marco Hale lying in the wreckage.

Claudia Ventresca stood frozen, her eyes wide with unadulterated terror as she stared at her broken associate. The arrogant, untouchable facade she had worn all afternoon shattered completely. But instead of retreating, her panic mutated into a desperate, hysterical, and entirely irrational fury. The realization that their secret excavation had been discovered pushed her into a blind, sociopathic frenzy.

Claudia’s frantic eyes darted across the terrace. Her mind, fractured by the sudden violence, fixated on retaliation. She looked past Alessio, spotting four-year-old Ruby standing safely behind the towering legs of the massive bodyguard.

"This is all your fault, you little brat!" Claudia shrieked, her American accent pitching into a shrill, manic octave.

Claudia lunged forward, her elegant garden-party outfit swishing aggressively around her legs. She bypassed all logic, reaching her ring-adorned hands out like claws, intending to bypass the bodyguard and drag the weeping child away in a desperate hostage attempt.

"Mom, no!" Evelyn screamed from the edge of the patio, utterly horrified by her mother's actions.

Alessio intercepted the crazed woman with terrifying, effortless speed.

Before Claudia could even take three steps past him, Alessio’s hand shot out. He caught her extended arm, his large fingers clamping around her wrist with the crushing, inescapable force of a steel vice. He violently yanked her arm downward, halting her forward momentum instantly.

"Let go of me!" Claudia screamed, thrashing wildly against his iron grip, her jewelry rattling against her wrists.

Alessio did not say a single word. His cold, intimidating eyes were entirely devoid of human empathy. He pulled his left hand back and delivered one thunderous, devastating open-handed slap directly across Claudia’s face.

The impact was brutally loud, a sharp, echoing crack that resonated over the quiet terrace.

The immense physical force of the slap sent Claudia spinning violently backward. She lost her footing in her designer heels, her arms flailing helplessly as she was thrown backward across the stone pathway.

Claudia hurtled directly into a long, meticulously arranged row of empty decorative planters.

The collision initiated a chaotic, cascading disaster. The heavy wooden and metal stands toppled in sequence, falling one after another like massive dominoes. Loose flowers, waiting to be planted, scattered wildly across the terrace in a burst of bright, vivid colors. Intricate ceramic pots smashed against the stone, sending shards flying into the manicured grass.

Claudia collapsed heavily among the overturned pots, hitting the ground in a tangled heap of silk, diamonds, and broken ceramics. She gasped for air, clutching her rapidly bruising, rosy cheek, entirely pinned beneath the ruined decorative stands she had crashed into.

The garden fell completely silent once more.

No dialogue was spoken. The music of the wind seemed to stop. The only sounds in the massive, brilliantly lit estate were the soft, terrified whimpers of Claudia struggling beneath the planters, and the heavy, ragged breathing of the stunned guests. Alessio stood in the center of the destruction, an untouchable warlord who had just forcefully reminded everyone in his syndicate exactly why he held the throne.
