Chapter 1

The afternoon sun bathed the private Mafia estate in Chicago in bright, cinematic colors, casting a luminous, flawless glow over the sprawling memorial garden. The air was crisp and clear, highlighting the fair, rosy skin of the white American guests who mingled among the stone flower beds. Sharp, distinct American accents drifted across the manicured lawns, carried by a gentle breeze that rustled the leaves of the towering oaks. It was a gathering of immense power and privilege, an assembly of hardened capos and suited associates sipping expensive champagne while heavily armed bodyguards stood silent watch along the perimeter. Yet, amidst the dangerous elegance, four-year-old Ruby Ventresca was entirely absorbed in her own innocent world. Dressed in a simple garden dress, a soft white cardigan, and tiny flats, she knelt beside the ornamental reflecting pond. She wore miniature gardening gloves, her small, rosy hands delicately cradling a flowering plant. She was preserving the legacy of her late mother, tending to the exact spot where the most beautiful blooms once thrived.
"Look at her, Marco," Claudia Ventresca sneered, her voice dripping with unfiltered venom. The forty-two-year-old cousin of the Boss stood a few feet away, radiating a bitter, resentful energy. She wore an elegant garden-party outfit that caught the bright cinematic light, her fingers adorned with heavy diamond rings. "She plays in the dirt like a common laborer. It is an absolute embarrassment to the Ventresca name."
Marco Hale, a forty-year-old associate with a ruthless reputation, adjusted the cuffs of his expensive tailored suit. His luxury wristwatch caught the sun as he let out a low, mocking chuckle. "She is just a child, Claudia. But I agree, it is not a fitting image for the daughter of the Don. Perhaps she needs a firm reminder of her station."
"She needs a reminder that this garden is a waste of prime real estate," Claudia hissed, her heels clicking sharply against the stone pathway as she marched toward the oblivious child. "And I am sick of looking at it."
Twelve-year-old Evelyn Ventresca, Claudia’s daughter, stood nearby in a simple summer dress. Her fair skin paled as she watched her mother approach the little girl. "Mom, don't," Evelyn whispered, her American accent trembling with genuine fear. "Uncle Alessio will be furious. Please, just leave her alone."
"Keep your mouth shut, Evelyn," Claudia snapped over her shoulder without breaking stride. "You could learn a thing or two about asserting dominance."
Claudia reached the edge of the reflecting pond, her shadow falling darkly over Ruby. The little girl looked up, offering a sweet, innocent smile. "Look, Aunt Claudia. I'm saving Mommy's flower. It needs more water to grow big and strong."
Without a fraction of a second's hesitation, Claudia violently ripped the flowering plant directly from Ruby’s small, gloved hands. The little girl gasped in sheer shock. With a vicious, sweeping motion, Claudia threw the delicate plant directly into the center of the deep, ornamental reflecting pond.
"No!" Ruby cried out, her tiny voice breaking as she immediately scrambled forward, reaching desperately toward the floating plant.

As the child leaned over the stone edge, Claudia’s eyes darkened with a sociopathic fury. She grabbed Ruby roughly by both shoulders, her diamond rings digging into the soft fabric of the girl's cardigan. With horrifying, merciless strength, Claudia forcefully pushed Ruby’s face down into the freezing water of the reflecting pond. The little girl thrashed wildly, bubbles erupting on the surface as she struggled for air.
"Your mother is dead," Claudia sneered, smiling viciously as she held the child down, completely ignoring the frantic splashing. "Her garden should disappear with her."
