Chapter 7

The heavy thud of the weapons hitting the grass was the final nail in the coffin of the political alliance. The fifty mourners, capos, and relatives watched in stunned fascination as the power dynamic of the entire state shifted in a matter of seconds. Tallulah was entirely isolated, stripped of her protection and her leverage, standing ruined and dirty in the center of the cemetery she had desecrated.
Tallulah spun around, looking at her surrendered guards with sheer disbelief. "Pick up your guns!" she shrieked, her face mottled with rage and terror. "My father pays you! Pick them up and shoot him!"
The guards did not move an inch. They kept their eyes fixed on the grass, refusing to provoke the mafia boss standing just feet away.
Anselm turned his attention away from the guards and focused entirely on the forty guests forming a loose circle around the grave. He recognized his most trusted capos standing among them, their hands resting near their own concealed weapons, waiting for his command.
"Will you men secure the senator's daughter and her escort?" Anselm asked, his voice ringing with absolute, terrifying authority. "And will you ensure they are transported to the holding cells beneath the estate immediately?"
Four massive enforcers, dressed in sharp dark suits that mirrored their boss's aesthetic, stepped forward instantly. They moved with terrifying, synchronized efficiency, bypassing the frozen guests and heading directly for Tallulah.
"No! Anselm, please! I am a senator's daughter! You cannot do this!" Tallulah wailed as the towering men surrounded her, grabbing her roughly by the arms. The elegant fabric of her ivory coat tore slightly under their brutal grip.
"Do you believe a political title grants you immunity from the consequences of desecration?" Anselm asked, watching her struggle with a cold, unyielding stare.
"My father will destroy you!" Tallulah screamed, thrashing wildly as they dragged her away from the headstone. "He will send the federal marshals to your door! He will burn this syndicate to the ground!"
"Do you honestly think I fear a corrupt politician more than I despise a traitor standing on my mother's grave?" Anselm countered softly, turning his broad shoulders away from her completely.
He nodded once to his men. They hauled her away, dragging her and the two surrendered bodyguards across the manicured grass toward the waiting black SUVs parked at the cemetery gates. Her frantic, echoing screams faded as she was forced into the vehicle, the heavy doors slamming shut with a definitive thud.
The private cemetery was instantly plunged back into a profound, ringing silence. The remaining guests stood perfectly still, their eyes wide with fear and newfound respect. They had just witnessed a bloodless, brutal coup that would inevitably spark a massive war with the state government. Anselm had not only eliminated the greatest threat to his emotional sanity, but he had also sent a terrifying message to anyone who dared to challenge him.
Anselm turned his head slowly, his dark eyes sweeping over the pale faces of his family and capos.
"Is there anyone else here who wishes to question my leadership or the sanctity of this ground?" Anselm asked, his deep, measured voice echoing in the quiet air.

When no one spoke, no one moved, and no one dared to even breathe too loudly, Anselm nodded slightly.
"Then I suggest you all return to the estate. This memorial is concluded," Anselm ordered.
