Chapter 1

The ballroom of the Carbone estate was bathed in a brilliant, almost blinding incandescence. Bright, vivid colors bounced off the crystal chandeliers, catching the emerald and sapphire hues of the evening gowns worn by the elite guests. Every figure in the room reflected a specific, meticulously curated image of wealth and power. They were all white Americans, their fair, rosy skin glowing under the warm, golden lights of the tall candle stands that flanked the room’s perimeter. Laughter and sharp, distinctly American accents filled the air as capos, bodyguards, and high-society associates mingled, completely unaware that the night was about to fracture into spectacular violence.
At the center of the room’s attention stood Alessia Carbone. At twenty-eight years old, she was a vision of terrifying, flawless elegance. Beautiful and attractive by the highest standards, she wore a luxurious formal gown that clung perfectly to her silhouette. Diamond earrings flashed against her fair skin, while the heavy gold of her family signet ring and a luxury wristwatch caught the light. She radiated the intimidating, undeniable aura of a Mafia boss. Beside her stood her husband, Garrett Lawson, a thirty-nine-year-old man in a tailored tuxedo, his polished leather shoes gleaming. His rosy complexion and handsome features masked a festering, unearned arrogance.
Approaching them was Miriam Carbone, Alessia’s sixty-four-year-old mother. Miriam wore a modest formal gown and a simple cardigan, her sensible flats a stark contrast to the towering heels of the women around her. Her rosy cheeks crinkled with a warm smile as she reached the small seating area designated for the family heads.
"It is a beautiful evening, Alessia," Miriam said gently, her voice carrying a soft, refined American cadence. "You have hosted a truly magnificent gala."
"Thank you, Mother," Alessia replied, offering a rare, genuine smile. "Please, take the seat of honor. You have been on your feet all evening."
Miriam nodded gracefully and began lowering herself toward the plush velvet chair beside Alessia. The ambient noise of the ballroom continued, a steady hum of clinking crystal and polite conversation.
Without warning, Garrett’s polished leather shoe lashed out. He brutally kicked Miriam’s leg right out from under her.
The older woman let out a sharp, breathless gasp as her center of gravity vanished. Miriam crashed heavily onto the unforgiving marble floor, the impact echoing with a sickening thud. The nearby guests immediately stopped talking, their fair faces turning toward the commotion in collective, absolute shock.
Before anyone could even process the fall, Garrett stepped forward. Instead of offering a hand, he planted the sole of his expensive shoe against Miriam’s shoulder and forcefully shoved her away across the polished marble.
"Garrett! What the hell are you doing?" shouted one of the nearby capos, his hand immediately dropping toward his waistband.

Garrett did not flinch. He looked down at the sixty-four-year-old woman with a twisted, hateful sneer on his rosy face. He adjusted the cuffs of his tailored tuxedo, his voice booming across the suddenly quiet space.
“Trash belongs on the floor,” Garrett said, his tone dripping with absolute, unapologetic contempt.
