Chapter 10

The sun began its slow descent, casting long, dramatic shadows across the ruined luxury pool terrace. The bright, vivid colors of the afternoon faded into the serious, cool tones of early evening. Valentina stood by the edge of the pool one last time, watching her men efficiently bind the bruised and broken Hale siblings. Vanessa wept hysterically as the plastic cuffs bit into her wrists, her luxurious white wedding gown stained with dirt and blood.
"You won't get away with this, Valentina!" Vanessa sobbed, her American accent shrill and desperate. "My family will hunt you down! We have allies in New York! We have allies in Chicago!"
Valentina slowly walked over to the bride. She did not raise a hand to strike her again. The physical violence was concluded; the psychological destruction was just beginning.
"Your family relies on secrets to survive, Vanessa," Valentina whispered, her deep, measured voice sending shivers down the bride's spine. "And today, I took all of them. By midnight, your father will be fighting a war on three fronts, because every family you have ever betrayed is going to receive a copy of your brother's audio files."
Vanessa’s eyes widened in sheer horror as the true scale of Valentina’s retaliation became clear. It wasn't just revenge; it was absolute, systematic annihilation.
"Load her up," Valentina commanded, turning her back on the weeping woman.
As Valentina walked toward the main exit of the terrace to join Ethan, her lead capo approached her, holding the small tablet case. His face was pale, his expression grim.
"Boss," the capo said quietly, keeping his volume low. "I was securing the files on the boy's tablet, preparing the upload to the servers."
"And?" Valentina asked, noticing the tension in his shoulders.
"There was a second audio file hidden in the deleted folder," the capo explained, handing the tablet back to her. "It was recorded yesterday in Thomas's study. I think you need to hear it before we arrive at the warehouse."
Valentina’s sharp, intimidating eyes narrowed. She took the tablet, her wet fingers tapping the screen to play the recovered file.
The audio crackled to life. It was Thomas’s voice again, but he was speaking to someone with a heavy, unfamiliar accent—not an American, and definitely not a Hale.
"The Moretti girl will be dealt with at the wedding," Thomas’s recorded voice promised. "Once I have the seat back, the ports are yours. The cartel can move their product through our shipping lanes without interference."
Valentina’s heart went ice cold. The Hales were just pawns. Her father hadn't just sold out her son to regain power; he had sold the entire city's infrastructure to a foreign cartel.

She looked up from the tablet, her eyes locking onto the dark, impending skyline of the city. The wedding was over, and the Hales were defeated. But the true war was only just beginning.
"Call the men," Valentina whispered into the cinematic dusk. "We need more guns."
