Chapter 5

The silence stretching across the grand salon was absolute and apocalyptic. The fifty elite guests, capos, and relatives remained paralyzed on the burgundy velvet sofas, the festive Christmas reception completely obliterated by the exposure of such calculated, psychopathic cruelty.

Tristan Crowne did not yell. He did not explode into physical violence. The quiet, deep, controlled manner in which he operated was far more terrifying than any shouted threat. He moved with preternatural speed, stepping smoothly into the space to position his broad, masculine body deliberately between Serena and Alina.

It was a physical shield, an unmistakable declaration of absolute protection that stripped away Serena's authority in a single, fluid movement. He remained beside Alina, his towering frame offering an impenetrable wall against the furious fiancée.

Moving with profound, measured grace, Tristan carefully placed the sealed paper vacuum bag into Alina’s hands. His tattooed fingers gently supported the bottom of the heavy bag until Alina held the remains securely.

Alina immediately drew the bag against her chest, holding her mother's ashes as if they were made of fragile glass. Mabel quietly gripped Alina’s apron, pressing her rosy cheek against the black fabric, entirely unaware of the catastrophic betrayal she had just exposed.

Alina’s tense, rigid shoulders eased slightly. The paralyzing terror that had gripped her for hours finally began to recede. She was standing behind the apex predator, and he had chosen to defend her.

Tristan remained between Serena and Alina, fixing Serena with a cold, unwavering stare. His sharp, angular jaw was set in stone, his eyes promising absolute ruin.

"You attempted to manipulate the hierarchy of this syndicate through petty, sadistic psychological torture against my staff," Tristan stated, his voice a low, vibrating hum of impending doom that echoed off the gilded mirrors. "You desecrated the dead in front of my daughter. You are a fatal liability."

Under the weight of that lethal, promising stare, Serena’s defensive arrogance completely disappeared. The color drained from her fair, rosy face as she realized her meticulously crafted social standing had just been obliterated. She backed away until her spine hit the edge of a carved walnut console, realizing with a sinking horror that the political immunity she had relied upon was entirely useless inside the walls of the Crowne estate.

"This reception is concluded," Tristan announced, shifting his dark gaze to the fifty elite guests seated around the room. His deep voice boomed with absolute, terrifying authority. "Everyone who does not carry the Crowne name, or work in my personal security detail, will vacate this salon immediately."

Chairs scraped frantically against the polished marble floors. Men and women paled in terror as they abandoned their champagne glasses and festive cheer. They rushed toward the massive double doors, eager to escape the impending explosion of violence before they were forced to take a side in a mafia civil war.

"Tristan, you are making a catastrophic mistake," Serena hissed, attempting to salvage her dignity as the room rapidly emptied. "My father will hear of this. The Cross family will not tolerate this level of public disrespect over a servant and a pile of dirt. You need our shipping routes."

"I would burn every ship in the harbor before I let you sleep under my roof again," Tristan replied coldly.
