Chapter 14

The oversight question survived Bianca.

I made sure of it.

Thomas proposed a rotating advisory group.

Five senior members.

No spouses.

No family-by-marriage automatic seats.

No authority over children.

No control of household staff.

Clear operational scope.

I approved it.

One capo laughed.

“So Marcus was right?”

“No.”

I looked at him.

“He was right that centralized power can create blind spots.”

Then:

“He was wrong to manufacture one using my daughter.”

Important distinction.

Bad people can point toward real weaknesses.

If I pretend the weakness does not exist because I hate who found it, I remain weak.

The advisory group challenged me within two months.

I hated their first recommendation.

Accepted it anyway after argument.

That mattered.

Emma heard about it and smiled.

“What?”

“You actually let someone tell you no.”

“Careful.”

She laughed.

Good.

The house changed too.

Staff meetings.

Clear escalation.

No one used my name secondhand anymore.

If I wanted something, it came through a documented instruction or directly from me.

Boring.

Effective.

Lucy benefited without knowing any of it.

Exactly right.

Children should receive safety without learning organizational charts.

She needed adults to do their jobs.

Not explain the governance behind breakfast.
