Chapter 1

The afternoon sun poured over the sprawling estate, casting brilliant, vivid colors across the manicured lawns and vibrant flower beds. It was a flawless summer day, the natural cinematic lighting devoid of any harsh yellow tint, illuminating the gathering of elite family members and bodyguards. Every guest in attendance wore upscale backyard-party clothing, their fair and rosy skin glowing in the sunlight as they mingled with champagne flutes in hand. Beneath the expansive covered patio, Domenico Ravello stood in the shade, a towering pillar of absolute authority. At thirty-seven, he possessed a devastating, masculine beauty that mirrored a classic movie star. His thick, neatly styled hair was slicked back, framing an angular face, a sharply defined jawline, and a short, well-trimmed full beard. The shadows of the patio caught the intricate, elegant tattoos wrapping around his neck and creeping down his arms, a stark visual contrast to his tailored dark three-piece suit.
"The shipping routes on the eastern seaboard need to be consolidated by the end of the month," Domenico instructed his two capos, his voice deep, slightly raspy, and naturally authoritative. He spoke slowly, pausing to let the weight of his words settle. "I do not want to hear excuses about the union bosses. You tell them the Ravello family is no longer negotiating."
"Understood, Boss," the older capo replied, nodding respectfully. "We will make sure the message is delivered loud and clear. They won't push back."
"Make sure they don't," Domenico murmured, his cold, sharp eyes scanning the vibrant yard.
A few yards away, near a massive bed of blooming hydrangeas, three-year-old Eli was chasing a small leather football. The boy’s fair, rosy cheeks were flushed with pure joy. Dressed in a crisp polo shirt, shorts, and pristine sneakers, he laughed as the ball took a wide bounce and rolled near the edge of the stone pathway. Eli bent his small frame, reaching out with tiny hands to retrieve the ball from the grass.
Suddenly, the tranquil atmosphere was violently shattered.
Conrad Ravello, Domenico’s thirty-nine-year-old cousin, stormed across the lawn. Dressed in an expensive casual shirt and tailored trousers, his luxury watch flashed in the sun as he gripped a heavy steel landscaping rod in his right hand. His face was twisted into a mask of sudden, inexplicable fury. Without a single warning, Conrad raised the solid steel rod and swung it viciously downward.
The heavy metal struck the packed earth directly beside Eli’s small leg. The sheer kinetic force of the impact shook the ground, kicking up a shower of dirt and grass. The terrifying sound and the shockwave knocked the three-year-old boy backward, sending him tumbling hard onto his back in the grass.

"Next time, stay away from my son’s things," Conrad spat viciously, his American accent dripping with unwarranted venom as he glared down at the terrified toddler.
Eli’s breath caught in his throat, his wide eyes filling with tears as a ragged, breathless sob tore from his small chest.
