Chapter 8

The days following the confrontation were a chaotic, brutal symphony of destruction for the Voss family. The news of Orson Voss’s sudden, catastrophic financial ruin spread through the city's elite circles like a highly contagious virus. The very people who had attended his lavish parties and drank his expensive vintage champagne were the first to distance themselves, terrified that the financial contagion might somehow spread to them.

Corbin monitored the fallout from the absolute safety of his high-rise penthouse, his handsome face betraying no emotion as he reviewed the daily intelligence reports provided by Marcus.

"It's a total collapse, Boss," Marcus reported during their morning briefing over an encrypted video link. "The bank moved incredibly fast. Without the shell companies to back the collateral, they called in the loans on the primary estate. Orson and Tabitha were served with an eviction notice this morning."

Corbin leaned back in his leather chair, sipping his coffee. "And Tabitha?"

"Her husband filed for divorce the moment he realized her trust fund was vaporized," Marcus chuckled grimly. "He apparently didn't sign a prenuptial agreement that protected him from her debts. She’s currently living in a cheap motel near the airport."

"Excellent," Corbin murmured, setting his coffee cup down. "They relied entirely on their money and their name to command respect. Now they are nothing. They are exactly where they belong."

The heavy mahogany door to the office creaked open slightly. Juniper peeked her head around the corner, wearing a bright pink princess dress and holding a small, pristine stuffed bear. Her fair, rosy cheeks were flushed with excitement.

"Daddy?" she asked softly. "Are you busy?"

Corbin instantly cut the video feed to Marcus, not wanting his daughter exposed to the dark machinery of his business. The cold, calculating Mafia boss vanished, replaced entirely by the devoted, loving father.

"I am never too busy for you, Jo," Corbin smiled warmly, pushing his chair back and holding his arms open.

Juniper ran into the office and climbed happily onto his lap, hugging the stuffed bear tightly. "Can we go to the park today? You promised we could feed the ducks."

"A promise is a promise," Corbin agreed, kissing the top of her head. "Go get your coat and your boots, and we'll head out right now."

As Juniper scrambled off his lap and ran back toward her bedroom, the encrypted phone on Corbin’s desk vibrated softly. It wasn't a call; it was an urgent text message from Marcus.

[ALERT: Orson has secured a meeting with Don Moretti. They are convening at the docks tonight. He is trying to sell your location in exchange for protection and a loan.]

Corbin stared at the message, the warm smile instantly sliding off his handsome face. He had anticipated that his father would become desperate, but reaching out to the Moretti family—a violent, rival syndicate that had spent years trying to muscle into Corbin’s newly acquired territory—was a massive escalation. Orson wasn't just begging for money; he was actively attempting to arrange a hit on his own son.

Corbin’s jaw clenched, his eyes turning to icy steel. The financial ruin clearly hadn't been enough to break his father’s arrogance. The old man still believed he could play the game.

Corbin quickly typed a reply to Marcus.

[Mobilize the heavy teams. We are going to the docks tonight. It’s time to end this.]
