Chapter 6

The heavy metal cuff lay discarded on the lower shelf of the serving trolley, a glaring testament to the cruelty that had just been dismantled. Iris immediately stepped behind Elliot, her trembling hands clutching her rumpled white apron. She positioned herself close to his broad back, using his powerful, tailored frame as a physical shield against the hundreds of staring eyes in the room.

Elliot slowly raised his gaze from Iris’s freed, bruised wrist. He turned his head, fixing his cold, dark eyes on Leona.

A slight, deliberate tightening of his jaw was the only movement on his angular face, but it spoke volumes. He held a cold, unwavering stare, a look of absolute, undeniable destruction. He stood perfectly still, ensuring Iris remained safely beside him, protected by the shadow of his authority.

Leona stared back, her chest heaving violently beneath her luxurious burgundy gown. The silence stretched, tight and unforgiving. The fifty guests held their collective breath, waiting for the executioner's blow.

"Elliot, darling, please," Leona finally gasped, her voice pitching high and breathless with panic. "You must understand! It was a matter of discipline! She was overstepping her boundaries! A maid has no right to touch your son! I was merely asserting the proper hierarchy of this household!"

"Are you defining chaining a woman to a cart like a dog as an acceptable assertion of hierarchy, Leona?" Elliot asked.

His deep, controlled voice remained completely level. The measured pause between his words was a calculated instrument of psychological torture.

"She needed to learn her place!" Leona cried, tears of sheer desperation welling in her eyes. She pointed a shaking, diamond-adorned finger at Iris, though she shrank back under Elliot's lethal glare. "You were away! Someone had to maintain order! You cannot possibly be upset over a clumsy servant when we have guests!"

"Do you believe my absence gives you the authority to turn my home into a torture chamber?" Elliot inquired, taking a slow, deliberate step toward her.

"I am your fiancée!" Leona shrieked, looking frantically around the room at the seated capos and donors, silently begging someone—anyone—to intervene. But the elite crowd sat immobilized, their faces pale with shock, utterly unwilling to cross the mafia boss. "I am going to be the mother of that boy! I have the right to discipline the staff!"

"Does a mother punish a child's affection with chains?" Elliot asked smoothly, exposing the fatal, rotting flaw in her hysterical narrative.

Leona swallowed hard, her lies fracturing under the weight of his absolute certainty. "She is manipulating him! She wants your money, she wants your power, she wants to take my place! You can't humiliate me in front of our families over a piece of trash!"

"You humiliated yourself the moment you laid hands on a woman under my protection," Elliot stated, his voice echoing coldly off the cream marble columns.
