Declan asked to speak to Finn.
I asked Finn.
He said no.
Declan looked offended.
“He’s three.”
“Yes.”
“He doesn’t understand marriage.”
“No.”
I nodded.
“But he understands who scared him.”
That was enough.
Declan accused me of turning his stepson against him.
I almost laughed.
“You tied his hands to a steering wheel.”
His face changed.
“You turned him yourself.”
Silence.
That sentence stayed.
People who harm children often fear another adult controlling the child’s opinion.
They forget children have memory.
