Chapter 64

The transition from the opulent gala to the subterranean holding cells was jarring. Arthur was chained to a heavy steel chair in the center of the concrete room. The harsh, brilliant tactical light above him offered no shadows to hide within. The heavy oak doors clicked open, and Domenico stepped inside. He had removed his tuxedo jacket, rolling up the sleeves of his crisp white shirt to expose the refined, sharp tattoos on his forearms. He projected a cold, sociopathic detachment that completely shattered Arthur's resolve. "You attempted to extort my wife," Domenico stated, walking slowly around the chair. "I can explain!" Arthur wept, tears streaming down his face. "I am in massive debt! A corporate syndicate from the north forced me to do it! They generated the false documents! They want to trigger a federal raid on your ports so they can seize your shipping contracts!" Domenico stopped in front of the trembling man. "Who commands this northern syndicate?" "A CEO named Marcus Vance!" Arthur choked out. "He operates out of a high-rise in Boston. He uses legitimate legal firms to launch hostile takeovers of underworld assets!" Domenico’s dark eyes narrowed into lethal slits. The corporate world was attempting to play mafia games. It was an insult he would rectify with absolute violence.
