Chapter 3

The tension in the bright, luminous air of the VIP lounge was so thick it felt tangible. The fifty guests held their collective breath, watching the political alliance of the Westbourne syndicate violently clash. Cyril’s sudden, desperate lunge with the heavy briefcase was a lethal escalation. The two professional bodyguards, caught momentarily off guard by the rapid deterioration of their employer's plan, stepped forward to assist in the assault.

Amadeo, his right hand throbbing and temporarily compromised, shifted his weight to evade the incoming blow. But before he could unleash the violent retaliation he was holding back, Nerina moved faster than anyone in the room could comprehend.

The sheer audacity of the attack on the man she loved sent a lethal surge of adrenaline through her slender frame. The man who protected the entire city was being physically assaulted in his own terminal, and she would not stand by and let it happen.

Nerina did not hesitate. Abandoning her gentle demeanor entirely, her expressive features hardened into a mask of pure, protective fury. She stepped quickly and decisively inside the arc of Cyril’s raised arms, entirely ignoring the heavy briefcase hovering above her own head.

She planted her flat shoes firmly on the polished marble floor, dropping her center of gravity to anchor her weight. With stunning, practiced precision that entirely belied her delicate appearance, Nerina drove ONE powerful, devastating uppercut directly into the underside of Cyril’s jaw.

The impact was sharp, loud, and brutally effective. The sheer force of the strike, combined with Cyril's forward momentum, was catastrophic.

Cyril’s head snapped violently backward. His eyes rolled upward as the sudden, concussive force scrambled his senses. His grip failed instantly, and the heavy leather briefcase dropped harmlessly to the floor, missing Amadeo entirely.

Unable to catch his balance, Cyril reeled backward, his expensive formal suit twisting awkwardly as he lost his footing completely. He crashed blindly backward.

Directly behind him stood the sleek, modern glass console.

Cyril’s back slammed squarely across the sharp edge of the console. The force of the throw was too much for the elegant furniture to withstand. The heavy glass top burst apart explosively with a deafening crash. The decorative metal frame buckled outward, folding sideways under the sudden, immense pressure.

Cyril crashed heavily onto the marble floor beneath a chaotic shower of falling folders, travel documents, and scattered glass fragments. He lay groaning in the wreckage, completely immobilized by the brutal impact.

The two towering bodyguards, caught completely off guard by the sudden violence from the beautiful housemaid, instinctively recoiled from the falling man and the shattering glass. They stared at Nerina, momentarily paralyzed by the sheer impossibility of what had just occurred.

A sudden, terrifying shift in the atmosphere stopped everyone dead in their tracks.

The nearby guests, who had been quietly shifting on their feet in anticipation of Amadeo's retaliation, stopped moving entirely. The silence that fell over the lounge was absolute, heavy, and apocalyptic. No one spoke. The entire gathering held its breath, staring at the housemaid who had just physically assaulted the senior capo.
