Chapter 4

The elegant warmth of the dinner party had completely evaporated, replaced by a suffocating, icy dread. The thirty guests, adorned in their finest evening wear, were paralyzed. No one dared to sip their wine or adjust their seating. They were watching a beautiful, poised socialite unravel before the most dangerous man in the city.
Bianca’s chest heaved in her sculpted gown. She stared at Alexander with wide, panicked eyes, the rosy flush of her skin draining into a sickly pallor. "Alexander, you cannot possibly believe this... this servant over your own fiancée. She is clearly confused or lying for attention!"
"Nora does not lie," Oliver said suddenly.
The six-year-old boy stepped slightly forward, pulling away from Nora’s protective grip just enough to assert himself. He looked directly up at Alexander, his young face a portrait of innocent certainty. His polished shoes remained firmly planted on the hardwood floor.
"She tells the truth, Dad," Oliver continued, his voice steady and clear. "The man with the scar gave me the ring. He told me to give it to you."
"And what else did he do, Oliver?" Alexander asked, his voice dropping to a terrifyingly gentle frequency. He completely ignored his frantic fiancée, giving his son his undivided attention.
Oliver blinked, processing the memory of the afternoon. He looked at Bianca, who was violently shaking her head, silently threatening the child with her wide, manic eyes. But Oliver trusted his father unconditionally.
"He didn't do anything else," Oliver said with absolute innocence. "But she did."
"She?" Alexander prompted softly.
"Bianca," Oliver added with innocent certainty. "She kissed him before he left."
The silence that followed was absolute. It was a silence so profound that the hum of the air conditioning and the distant ticking of a grandfather clock sounded like explosions. The guests stared in open-mouthed horror. The implication of the child's words was catastrophic. The mafia boss’s fiancée had been kissing a man presumed dead, a man who was supposed to be Alexander's beloved brother.
Alexander’s gaze moved slowly, deliberately away from his son. His cold, perceptive eyes tracked across the crisp white tablecloth, past the crystal wine glasses, until they locked onto Bianca.
He did not yell. He did not flip the table. The stillness of his muscular, tailored frame was infinitely more terrifying than any outburst of violence. He held her gaze with a predatory intensity that stripped away every layer of her high-society armor.
Bianca’s mouth opened. Her lips trembled as she desperately searched for a lie, an excuse, a manipulation that could save her from the abyss she had just plummeted into. She gasped for air, but no answer came. Her throat was completely paralyzed by the sheer terror radiating from the man she had betrayed.

Nora kept Oliver pulled close against her neat white apron, her hands wrapping protectively around the boy's chest. She shielded him from the venomous tension radiating from the head of the table.
The guests watched in breathless, paralyzed silence. The golden chandeliers continued to cast their warm, luminous light, blissfully unaware of the absolute devastation unfolding beneath them. Alexander’s hand remained firmly pressed over the silver ring, his eyes boring into the woman who had just signed her own death warrant, long before the visitor’s identity could be explicitly confirmed to the rest of the room.
