Chapter 15

The black chair disappeared permanently.

Not destroyed.

I donated it to the Falcone historical room inside one of our old estates.

A small plaque explained what it had been.

Nothing sacred.

Nothing cursed.

Just furniture once used by men who thought authority needed a special seat.

Nicholas laughed when he heard.

“You put the chair in a museum?”

“Basically.”

“That’s insulting.”

“Good.”

He smiled despite himself.

The First Toast changed too.

No rule about temporary command if the boss missed midnight.

If I was late, people drank without me.

Revolutionary.

Older relatives complained.

Then survived.

Hotel security changed the elevator access system so no family guest could quietly place a car under service control through event privileges alone.

Daniel handled the details.

I did not need them.

What mattered was structural.

No single relative could turn ceremony, seating, and hotel logistics into authority again.

Valerie’s greatest advantage had been everyone assuming those things were too trivial for the boss to care about.

She proved otherwise.

Soft power is still power.

Ignoring it does not make you less controlling.

It makes you easier to control through someone else.

That was my lesson.

Not Harper’s.
