Chapter 3

The graceful, predatory elegance of Soraya Bellgrave shattered in an instant. Her arms flailed wildly, the diamond jewelry catching the bright, airy light as she desperately tried to find purchase in the empty air. A sharp, undignified shriek tore from her throat.

She toppled violently backward, completely out of control.

The impact was catastrophic. Soraya crashed back-first directly into the tall, illuminated glass cabinet that housed the crown jewels of the designer shoe launch.

The heavy glass doors exploded upon impact. A deafening roar of shattering glass echoed through the private showroom. Thousands of glittering shards rained down like deadly confetti.

The internal structure of the cabinet buckled under her weight. The illuminated glass shelves tilted sharply, sending dozens of exquisite, incredibly expensive designer heels tumbling through the air. Both structural panels of the cabinet burst apart with a sickening crunch of metal and wood.

Soraya landed heavily on the cream marble floor at the base of the ruined display. Her luxurious ivory dress was covered in debris, and broken glass scattered in a wide, dangerous perimeter around her. She lay there, stunned and gasping for breath, buried beneath a cascade of the very shoes she had designed.

The silence that followed the crash was absolute.

No dialogue broke the stillness. The fifty guests—buyers, capos, and staff—were utterly paralyzed by the sudden, explosive violence orchestrated by a petite housemaid.

The two bodyguards flanking Soraya snapped out of their shock. They rushed forward, their dark suits contrasting against the bright lights, frantically checking on their fallen employer, carefully navigating the sea of broken glass.

Nerea didn't spare the ruined designer a single glance.

She immediately turned her back on the chaos and returned directly to Aurelio. He was already standing, having retrieved his phone during the crash. His posture was commanding, an impenetrable fortress of dark wool and dangerous authority.

Nerea moved close to him, her breathing shallow and frantic. She grabbed a clean linen cloth from her white apron. With trembling hands, she gently grasped his forearm and began to blot the wet, black shoe polish from his stained wrist.

She worked desperately, terrified of the men in the room, terrified of the consequences of her actions. As she wiped the thick paste, her own delicate fingers began to blacken, stained by the very mess she was trying to clean.

She noticed the dark polish transferring to her skin. A fresh wave of panic hit her. She was dirtying herself, and she was afraid of marking his immaculate, tailored suit with her ruined hands.

Nerea started to quickly withdraw her hands, pulling away from him, her expressive eyes filling with tears of shame and adrenaline.

But Aurelio didn't let her go.

With incredible, breathtaking gentleness, Aurelio reached out. He softly caught her retreating hand. His large, tattooed fingers wrapped securely around her small, blackened ones. He didn't pull away from the mess.

Instead, Aurelio slowly brought her stained hand up and rested it firmly against the pristine, clean lapel of his tailored dark suit. He deliberately pressed her blackened fingers against his chest, permanently marking the expensive fabric.

No dialogue was spoken, but the air in the room seemed to crackle with an unspoken, profound declaration.
