Chapter 6

The tension in the living room escalated into a highly combustible, physical weight. The bright video colors of the decor seemed to blur as the adrenaline spiked in the veins of everyone present. The Father stood just feet away from Bethany, his dark, intimidating presence completely suffocating her remaining arrogance.
Bethany, driven by a toxic cocktail of cornered panic and an irrational belief in her own familial superiority, made a catastrophic miscalculation. She actually believed she still possessed the authority to dictate the situation.
"Give her to me," Bethany demanded, her voice pitching into a shrill, desperate frequency. "She needs to calm down. You are making her hysterical. Give her to me right now, and we can discuss this like adults."
Without a shred of self-preservation, Bethany lunged forward. She reached her heavily jeweled hands out, aiming to aggressively grab Rosie out of the Father’s protective embrace.
The Father’s reaction was instantaneous, explosive, and executed with absolute, ruthless precision.
He didn't retreat. As Bethany’s hands came within inches of his daughter, the Father swung his right arm in a violent, defensive arc.
He forcefully knocked Bethany’s hand away. The physical impact was loud and brutal, bone colliding with bone.
"Ah!" Bethany shrieked in pain, stumbling backward in her high heels. She clutched her wrist, her fair, rosy face twisting in shock. She stared at him as if he had just committed an unforgivable crime, completely oblivious to the irony of her outrage.
There was no dialogue. The Father did not waste another single breath on the woman. He didn't yell, and he didn't issue any further threats. His silence was infinitely more terrifying than his shouting had been.
He tightened his grip on his daughter, securing her small, trembling body against his chest. He turned his back on Bethany and the paralyzed crowd of relatives. He began to walk with heavy, purposeful strides directly toward the open hallway that led to the front door.
His boots crunched heavily over the shattered crystal glass that the Grandfather had thrown earlier. He didn't care. His sole, absolute focus was removing his child from the toxic, abusive environment.

"Don't you walk away from us!" the Grandmother screamed from the center of the room, her floral blouse heaving with indignation. "If you take her out that door, you are never stepping foot in this house again! You will never see a dime of our money!"
The Father didn't even pause his stride. The threat of losing their dirty wealth meant absolutely nothing to him. He was a father protecting his blood, and there was no force on earth that was going to stop him from carrying his daughter to safety. He reached the edge of the hallway, the bright sunlight from the open front door illuminating their path to freedom.
