Chapter 6

Time seemed to slow in the brightly illuminated ballroom. The heavy champagne bottle descended in a deadly arc.

Corisande planted her flat shoes firmly against the polished marble floor. She rotated her hips, turning her slender body with surprising, explosive torque. She channeled every ounce of her fear, her anxiety, and her fierce devotion into her right arm.

Before the glass bottle could descend upon her, Corisande drove ONE powerful, flawless right hook directly into Octavia’s jaw.

The impact was a sickening, sharp crack that echoed over the silent crowd.

Octavia’s head snapped violently sideways. The sheer kinetic force of the blow lifted the socialite slightly off her high heels. Her eyes rolled back, all the fight instantly short-circuiting in her brain.

Octavia reeled backward, her arms flailing wildly. She stumbled out of control, her hips striking the edge of the narrow folding dessert table with massive, uncoordinated momentum.

The impact was catastrophic.

Her upper body crashed heavily across the table's surface. The narrow, folding aluminum legs instantly buckled beneath her shifting weight, groaning loudly before snapping inward.

The entire table collapsed in a spectacular, deafening cascade of ruin.

Porcelain cake stands smashed violently against the hard marble floor, sending shards of white ceramic exploding outward like shrapnel. Crystal fruit bowls burst into thousands of glittering fragments, raining down beneath the cinematic lighting. Silver plates clattered and spun wildly across the room, creating a chaotic symphony of destruction.

Octavia dropped heavily onto the floor, collapsing into a tangled heap beneath the overturned white tablecloth. The heavy champagne bottle rolled harmlessly from her limp hand, clinking gently against a piece of shattered crystal.

A profound, breathless silence instantly reclaimed the ballroom. The fifty relatives, capos, guests, and staff stood completely frozen, staring in absolute shock at the wreckage.

The beautiful, slender housemaid in the black dress and white apron stood over the fallen socialite. Her chest heaved rapidly, her right hand still balled into a tight, trembling fist. She had just knocked a mafia princess unconscious in front of the entire syndicate, and destroyed a priceless dessert display in the process.

No one spoke. The sheer audacity and raw power of the single punch hung in the bright air, a definitive, undeniable punctuation to the end of the engagement.
