Chapter 6

The bright, natural daylight streaming through the hallway windows illuminated the absolute, devastating collapse of Meredith's reality. The thirty-six-year-old woman stood frozen, her heavy diamond earrings swinging slightly as she trembled. She shook her head in rapid, frantic denial.
"No," Meredith gasped, her American accent losing all of its aristocratic polish. "No, that's impossible. Gordon would have known! My father would have protected me! He oversees the holding firm!"
"Gordon," Aaliyah stated smoothly, her tone laced with a dark, triumphant satisfaction, "was the one who sold you out. When my proxy presented him with an offer that was thirty percent above market value, his legendary greed overrode his paternal loyalty. He signed the authorization yesterday afternoon. He didn't even read the name of the shadow corporation acquiring the assets."
The revelation was a fatal blow. Meredith staggered backward, her stiletto heels wobbling on the marble floor. The realization that her own father had sold her life's work to a faceless corporation—which turned out to be Aaliyah—completely broke her mind.
"You... you set this up," Meredith breathed, genuine tears of panic welling in her eyes.
"I have been setting this up for four years," Aaliyah replied, her voice remaining eerily calm and professional. "I was waiting for the perfect moment to dismantle you. And then... you shoved my five-year-old daughter to the floor."
Aaliyah’s eyes darkened into soulless, terrifying voids. The maternal fury she had suppressed in the dining room was now fully weaponized.
"You made a catastrophic mistake today, Meredith," Aaliyah whispered.
She looked down at the screen of her smartphone. She tapped a single contact name: General Counsel - Marcus Thorne. The phone dialed, the soft ringing echoing faintly in the quiet hallway.
Meredith lunged forward, her hands raised in a desperate, pathetic gesture of surrender. "Aaliyah, wait! Please! We can talk about this! I'll apologize to Zoe! I'll buy her whatever she wants! Don't do this! That company is everything I have!"
Aaliyah held up a single, silencing finger as the line connected.
Zoe, resting her head on her mother's shoulder, watched the scene with wide, quiet eyes. The mild red mark on her medium-brown cheek was a stark, physical reminder of exactly why this execution was necessary.
"Yes, Aaliyah?" a deep, professional male voice answered through the phone's speaker.
At that exact moment, the heavy doors of the dining room swung open. Gordon and Patricia Monroe stepped out into the hallway, annoyed by the shouting that was interrupting their Easter meal. Gordon still held his cloth napkin, his rosy face flushed with irritation. Patricia adjusted her pearls, looking between her two daughters in confusion.
Meredith turned toward her parents, her face a mask of absolute, hysterical terror. "Dad! Dad, stop her! She bought the company! She's taking my agency!"
Gordon froze, his jaw dropping as he stared at his adopted daughter. Patricia gasped, her hand flying to her mouth. They both stopped dead in their tracks, entirely paralyzed by the sudden, violent shift in the family power dynamic.

“Fire Meredith,” Aaliyah commanded. Her voice was eerily calm, yet loaded with a final, controlled rage that sent a physical shiver down the spines of everyone in the hallway.
