Chapter 10

The dim, plush corridors of the west wing felt suffocatingly quiet compared to the war that had raged outside. Quentin stepped out of the nursery, pulling the heavy oak door shut behind him, leaving Holly and his sleeping son locked safely inside. He held his assault rifle with terrifying ease, moving with the predatory silence of a hunting panther.

"Are they moving toward the master suite, Marcus?" Quentin asked, his voice a barely audible whisper over the comms.

"They are sweeping the second floor, Boss," Marcus replied softly. "They are looking for the boy."

Quentin’s jaw firmed into unyielding granite. The thought of those men breathing the same air as his son ignited a cold, murderous fury deep within his chest. He navigated the shadowed archways, his polished leather shoes making absolutely no sound on the thick carpets.

Two men in dark tactical gear stepped out from a branching corridor, their weapons raised.

"Did you think you could infiltrate my home and live to see the dawn?" Quentin asked.

The men spun toward the deep voice, but they were entirely too slow. Quentin fired twice. The suppressed weapon made a sharp, deadly thwip-thwip sound, and both men collapsed instantly to the floor, neutralized before they could even pull their triggers.

Quentin stepped over their bodies, his angular face a mask of cold, calculating wrath. The threat was eliminated. The estate was secure.

He walked back to the nursery, his broad shoulders finally relaxing a fraction of an inch. He knocked twice on the heavy oak door.

"Are you ready to open the door, Holly?" Quentin asked softly.

The deadbolt clicked, and the door opened. Holly stood there, still gripping the heavy pistol, her chest heaving. When she saw Quentin standing there, unharmed, she let out a shattered breath of relief and lowered the weapon.

"It's over," Quentin said quietly, stepping into the room and taking the gun from her shaking hands. He engaged the safety and set it on a nearby dresser.

"Are they all gone?" Holly whispered, her delicate cheekbones pale in the lamplight.

"Do you believe any man who crossed my threshold tonight survived to tell the tale?" Quentin inquired, his cold eyes softening completely as he looked down at her.

He reached out, his tattooed hands gently framing her softly rounded cheeks. His thumbs brushed lightly over her fair, rosy skin, wiping away a smear of soot. The immense violence of the night faded into the background, leaving only the profound, magnetic pull between them.

"You risked everything for us," Holly said, her voice cracking.

"Did you think I would allow the woman who saved my son to remain a servant in my home?" Quentin asked, a flicker of profound, protective warmth entering his perceptive eyes. "Are you ready to leave this uniform behind?"

Holly looked down at her black maid dress, the white apron stained and ruined from the siege. She looked back up at the towering, terrifying man who was offering her a place in his dangerous, blood-soaked world. She was no longer just a housemaid; she was a protector, a survivor, and the woman who had captured the heart of a mafia king.

"What happens now?" Holly asked softly, leaning into the warmth of his hands.

"Shall we go rebuild our family?" Quentin asked.

He didn't wait for her to answer. He leaned down, capturing her lips in a fierce, demanding kiss that sealed her fate to his forever. The war was over, but the reign of the new queen of the Crowe syndicate had just begun.

"Will you rule this empire by my side?" Quentin asked against her lips, the promise of a dangerous, beautiful future hanging heavily in the quiet night.
