Chapter 19

The gala raged on into the late hours, a brilliant display of wealth and absolute power. Dorian stepped away from the crowded ballroom, guiding Lottie onto the quiet, expansive balcony overlooking the manicured grounds.

The cool night air was refreshing, carrying the faint, distant sounds of the city they completely controlled. Heavily armed, immaculate bodyguards patrolled the perimeter below, shadows of lethal protection ensuring that no threat would ever breach their sanctuary.

"It's peaceful tonight," Lottie noted, leaning against the stone balustrade.

"The peace is absolute," Dorian murmured, wrapping his strong arms securely around her from behind. He rested his chin on her shoulder.

He looked out over his sprawling, luxurious empire. He had survived unimaginable betrayal, dismantled cruel aristocracies, and executed anyone who dared to threaten his territory. He had utilized the darkness to forge an impenetrable sanctuary of light.

"I love you, Dorian," Lottie whispered, turning her head to kiss him.
