Chapter 3

The silence in the grand dining room was a physical, suffocating pressure. The tall candles flickering inside their silver candelabras seemed to be the only things moving. The bright, luminous colors of the room felt painfully sharp, illuminating the exact moment the polished illusion of the Crowne empire began to violently fracture.
Elliot’s expression remained an unreadable mask of masculine stone. He did not rush forward to embrace the ghost standing in the hidden doorway. He did not explode into the violent rage for which he was feared throughout the criminal underworld. The stillness of his muscular frame was infinitely more dangerous.
Slowly, terrifyingly, Elliot shifted his gaze. The movement was predatory, his eyes moving first toward Viviana, followed by a slight, deliberate turn of his head. His sharply defined jaw firmed until the bone threatened to snap under the pressure. His mouth became completely still, settling into a hard, unforgiving line.
He held Viviana’s eyes in a cold, unwavering silence that promised absolute destruction. The mafia boss said nothing. His silence was infinitely more dangerous than a scream, stripping away her diamonds, her satin gown, and her lies, exposing the cruel, power-hungry monster trembling beneath. Every single guest in the room remained hyper-attentive, paralyzed by the overwhelming, lethal energy radiating from Elliot.
Viviana stared up at Elliot, her fair, rosy skin drained of all color, leaving her looking sickly and translucent. She gripped the edge of the polished walnut table, her diamond engagement ring catching the light as her hand shook violently. She opened her mouth to speak, to scream a denial, to call the housemaid a liar, but her vocal cords were paralyzed.
"Are you struggling to find a suitable explanation, Viviana?" Elliot finally asked.
His deep, low voice remained completely level. The measured pause between his words was a calculated instrument of psychological torture. He did not step toward her, but the sheer gravity of his presence pressed her against her velvet chair.
"Elliot, darling, please," Viviana gasped, her American accent pitching high and breathless with panic. "She is an imposter! It’s a trick! My enemies are trying to sabotage our wedding! You saw the casket! You buried her!"
"Does a dead woman knock on the walls of my dining room?" Elliot inquired, his perceptive eyes narrowing into cold slits.
"The maid set this up!" Viviana cried, tears of sheer desperation welling in her eyes. She pointed a shaking, diamond-adorned finger at Cora. "She wants to ruin our evening! She has been trying to destroy us since the day I moved in!"
Cora instinctively stood up from her crouch, her slender figure tense in her sophisticated black maid dress. She stepped slightly in front of the open panel, positioning her body to shield Helena from the socialite's venomous glare.
"Would a housemaid fabricate a resurrection to destroy the foundation of a mafia syndicate?" Elliot asked, his voice echoing off the carved marble fireplace.
"Yes!" Viviana shrieked, looking frantically around the room at the seated guests, silently begging someone—anyone—to intervene. But the elite crowd sat immobilized, their fair faces pale with shock, utterly unwilling to cross the mafia boss.
Elliot slowly swept his gaze across the room, taking in the fifty guests sitting frozen at their tables.
"Have you all finished your meals?" Elliot asked the room at large.

It was phrased as a question, but the command hidden within it was unmistakable and absolute. Chairs scraped violently against the polished hardwood and marble floors as the guests practically scrambled to their feet. There were no polite farewells, no lingering handshakes. Men in tailored suits and women in evening gowns fled the bright, elegant room with frantic urgency, eager to escape the blast radius of Elliot Crowne’s wrath.
Within moments, the grand dining hall was entirely empty, save for Elliot, Viviana, Cora, and the fragile woman standing in the hidden doorway. The heavy mahogany doors slammed shut, sealing the room and locking Viviana inside with her greatest nightmare.
