Chapter 10

The morning sun broke over the sprawling Rourke estate, casting a bright, luminous glow through the towering windows of the grand dining hall. The cascading crystal chandeliers were turned off, allowing the natural, airy daylight to fill the room with a fresh, polished warmth. The long walnut tables had been cleared of the gold-rimmed porcelain and silver cutlery, returning the room to a state of quiet, elegant tranquility.
Maxwell stood near the marble fireplace, staring out the window. He had spent the entire night orchestrating the systemic destruction of the Lennox syndicate. Strike teams had already seized the eastern ports, and Camille’s father was currently in federal custody, courtesy of an anonymous package containing his daughter's handwritten confession. The war had been won before the enemy even realized the battle had begun.
The heavy double doors of the dining hall clicked open, breaking the silent reverence of the morning.
Ada stepped into the room. She was no longer wearing the sophisticated black maid dress. Instead, she wore a simple, elegant blouse and tailored trousers, looking refreshed and radiant. Baxter walked slowly but happily beside her, his coat brushed and dry, the trauma of the previous night fading in the warm morning light.
"Is he ready for breakfast, Ada?" Maxwell asked, turning away from the fireplace, a genuine, warm smile breaking across his handsome face as he looked at the dog.
"He is, Mr. Rourke," Ada replied, her American accent bright and cheerful. "And he is very hungry."
"Shall we go to the kitchens, Baxter?" Maxwell asked, crouching down to effortlessly scratch the dog behind the ears.
Baxter thumped his tail against the marble floor, pressing his head into Maxwell's hand.
Maxwell looked at Ada, his cold, perceptive eyes entirely softened by profound gratitude. The young woman had risked her life to expose a truth that had saved his companion and severed a toxic alliance. She was no longer a servant; she was a fiercely loyal, permanent fixture of his inner circle.
"Will you join us for breakfast, Ada?" Maxwell asked softly.
Ada’s fair, rosy cheeks flushed a delicate pink. "I would be honored to join you, sir."
"Shall we lead the way?" Maxwell asked, standing up and gesturing toward the doors.

They walked together out of the bright, airy dining hall, stepping into the sunlit corridors of the sprawling estate. The nightmare was over. The traitors had been purged, the empire secured, and a loyal friend had been saved. But as Maxwell glanced out at the city skyline in the distance, he knew that peace in their world was always temporary. New enemies would rise, and new wars would be fought.
"Will anyone ever dare to threaten this family again while I draw breath?" Maxwell whispered to himself, a dark, terrifying promise lingering beneath his breath. The future of the Rourke syndicate was bright, but it would always be defended with absolute, unyielding power.
