Chapter 5

The bright, cinematic colors of the conservatory seemed to strobe as the tension finally snapped. Sterling Thorne, mistaking Silas’s terrifyingly calm demeanor for hesitation, made the final, catastrophic mistake of his life. Convinced he had the upper hand, Sterling pulled his right arm back, balling his hand into a heavy fist.
Sterling swung a vicious, looping punch aimed directly at Silas’s jaw, intending to knock the Mafia boss to the ground in front of his own mother and staff.
The strike never even came close.
Silas moved with the blinding, explosive speed of a seasoned street fighter. He didn't block the punch; he simply wasn't there when it landed. With a flawless, fluid shift of his weight, Silas slipped his head to the outside of the strike. Sterling’s fist sailed harmlessly through the air, the missed momentum pulling the older man entirely off balance and exposing his unprotected torso and face.
Before Sterling could even attempt to recover his footing, Silas struck.
Planting his polished black leather loafers firmly against the tile, Silas channeled the immense, deeply masculine power of his broad shoulders and core. He drove one explosive, devastating counterpunch straight across Sterling’s face.
The heavy gold signet ring on Silas’s hand connected squarely with the ruddy, pinkish skin of Sterling’s cheekbone. The sickening, resonant crack of breaking bone echoed like a rifle shot across the quiet conservatory.
The sheer kinetic force of the blow was absolute. It lifted the forty-two-year-old man completely out of his expensive leather shoes. Sterling’s eyes rolled back in his head instantly as all the air detonated from his lungs in a violent spray of sweat and blood.
Sterling spun violently backward, completely out of control. His arms flailed uselessly as he was launched across the brightly lit room, hurtling directly toward a massive, tiered ceramic planter stand filled with heavy soil and blooming citrus flowers.
He crashed into the structure with the force of a wrecking ball.
The impact was thunderous. The tall, wooden tiers of the planter stand snapped and buckled under his weight. Dozens of heavy, ornate ceramic pots tumbled from their shelves, shattering explosively against the stone tiles. Large, leafy citrus branches shook violently, snapping and raining green leaves over the wreckage. Rich, dark soil burst across the pristine floor, creating a chaotic, messy cloud in the cinematic light.

Sterling crashed heavily beneath the collapsed wooden tiers. He hit the ground in a tangled, groaning heap of broken wood, shattered ceramic, and spilled earth. His expensive suit was ruined, and blood poured from his shattered face into the soil. He lay utterly incapacitated, his reign of arrogance terminated in less than three seconds.
There was no dialogue. The overwhelming, brutal reality of the violence silenced every single person in the room. The bodyguards standing near the exits did not flinch; they simply crossed their arms, watching their Boss dismantle the threat to his bloodline.
