Chapter 8

The heavy, polished oak doors of the grand dining hall slammed shut with a resounding, definitive thud. The deadbolts clicked into place, locking the elite guests, the traitors, and the Mafia boss inside the brilliantly lit room. The bright, natural colors of the setting—the emerald drapes, the sparkling crystal—now felt like the walls of a beautifully decorated execution chamber.
"Ladies and gentlemen," Vincent said, his deep American accent carrying effortlessly across the terrified crowd. "Remain in your seats. Keep your hands visible on the table. Anyone who moves will be considered a threat."
The wealthy guests obeyed instantly, their fair, rosy faces pale with absolute terror. They knew the rules of the Bellacorte family. They were witnessing a violent, systemic purge of the highest ranks, and survival depended entirely on absolute submission.
Vincent walked slowly away from the table. He moved toward Maria and Eli. The twenty-five-year-old housekeeper was still kneeling on the floor, holding the trembling three-year-old tightly.
"Maria," Vincent said softly, his deeply masculine, terrifying aura completely receding as he knelt beside her.
"Yes, Mr. Bellacorte," Maria answered, her voice shaking violently as she looked up at him.
"You saved my son's soul today," Vincent murmured warmly, reaching out and gently wiping a tear from Eli's rosy cheek. "You refused to lie, even when they threatened your life. You are a woman of profound honor."
"I love him, sir. He is a good boy," Maria whispered, hugging Eli closer.
"From this moment forward, you are under my personal protection," Vincent vowed, his voice carrying the weight of an unbreakable oath. "You are no longer a housekeeper. You are the head of my child's security detail. Whatever you need, for the rest of your life, it is yours."
Maria gasped, fresh tears of shock and gratitude spilling from her eyes. "Thank you, Mr. Bellacorte. Thank you."
"Take him to my private suite in the west wing," Vincent instructed gently. He looked up at two of his most loyal bodyguards. "Escort them. Lock the steel blast doors behind you. Do not open them for anyone but me."
"Yes, Boss," the guards nodded respectfully.
Vincent stood up, helping Maria to her feet. He watched carefully as she carried his son out of the room through a secure side door, flanked by the armed men. He waited until the door clicked shut, ensuring his bloodline was completely safe from the horrors that were about to unfold.
When he turned back to face the dining hall, the warm, protective father was completely gone. In his place stood the apex predator of the criminal underworld, his cold, penetrating eyes burning with a dark, unyielding fire.

He walked back toward the head of the table. He looked at Silas, who was sweating profusely, and then at Helena, who was weeping against the wall.
"The Bellacorte family is built on loyalty," Vincent announced to the room, his voice a low, terrifying rumble. "Today, that loyalty was broken. And so... we must clean house."
