Chapter 4

The childish words hit the room with the devastating force of a detonating bomb.
The absolute, unvarnished truth spoken from the mouth of the syndicate’s adopted heir was a catastrophic verdict. It wasn't just a child's accusation; it was a horrifying confirmation of the rumors that had surrounded the destruction of the charitable front.
A collective gasp ripped through the elite guests. Capos exchanged dark, dangerous glances. The fiancée of the boss had just been accused of mass arson and attempted murder by a six-year-old survivor.
Coralie’s sympathetic smile vanished instantly. The fair, rosy skin of her face drained of all color, turning a sickly, translucent white beneath the warm golden light. The cinematic illumination of the room offered no place for her guilt to hide.
"What did you say?" Coralie hissed, her polished public manner shattering completely. She slammed her manicured hands down on the gold-rimmed porcelain, rattling her crystal glass. "You little liar! How dare you speak to me like that!"
Matthias did not hesitate. His reaction was explosive, fueled by raw, terrifying, paternal adrenaline.
He rose instantly from his velvet dining chair. The movement was so smooth, so packed with coiled, lethal energy, that it commanded absolute stillness from everyone else in the room. His broad shoulders blocked the light from the chandeliers as he stepped decisively beside Theo.
Matthias did not look at Coralie. He looked directly at Ada.
The housemaid was trembling violently, her rumpled apron shaking against her dress. She had risked her life by pulling the boy from the flames, and now the boy had just ignited a war to protect her.
Matthias extended his heavily tattooed hand, resting it firmly and reassuringly on Theo's small shoulder. It was a clear, physical declaration of absolute protection.
"Ada," Matthias commanded, his deep voice a low, vibrating rumble that shook the crystal glasses on the table. "Keep Theo beside me."
Ada didn't think. The sheer terror of the moment overrode her exhaustion. She dropped the silver serving tray onto the marble floor with a loud crash. She moved instantly beside the velvet chair, wrapping her arms around the six-year-old boy and pulling him securely against the side of Matthias's tailored dark suit, physically shielding the child with her own body.
With Ada and Theo safely sheltered beside him, Matthias slowly turned his head. The transition was terrifying. The polite host was gone, replaced entirely by the ruthless, cold-blooded king of the syndicate.

He locked his gaze directly onto Coralie.
Matthias’s jaw tightened slightly, the very short stubble on his face bristling with suppressed, explosive violence. He held a cold, unwavering stare, his eyes absolute voids of lethal intent. He did not yell. He did not curse. His silence was infinitely more dangerous than a scream, stripping away her diamonds, her emerald gown, and her lies, exposing the cruel, power-hungry monster trembling beneath.
