Chapter 2

The soft, electronic chime of the private VIP elevator echoed through the concrete cavern of the parking level. The heavy steel doors slid open with a smooth, expensive whisper.

Alessandra Ashford stepped out of the elevator. At twenty-nine, she was a terrifying vision of power, elegance, and unyielding authority. She had just concluded a brutal, hours-long Mafia council meeting upstairs. She wore a perfectly tailored dark three-piece pantsuit that accentuated her commanding presence, paired with a pristine silk blouse. A heavy family signet ring gleamed on her finger alongside a luxury wristwatch, and her polished heels struck the concrete like the steady ticking of a metronome. Her fair, rosy skin was flawless, her expression an impenetrable mask of absolute dominance.

For a fraction of a second, the scene before her didn't register. She expected to see her security detail waiting. Instead, her calculating eyes swept over the luggage carts, the folded canopy frames, and the cluster of elegantly dressed people.

Then, she saw him.

Tobin was shivering against the cold concrete pillar, clutching his stuffed shark, his clothes torn and covered in filth.

Alessandra froze. The impenetrable mask of the Mafia boss shattered instantly, replaced by the primal, devastating shock of a mother witnessing her child in agony. Her breath hitched. The air became instantly suffocating.

"Tobin?" Alessandra breathed, her voice a mixture of disbelief and rising, explosive fury.

She didn't walk; she rushed forward, her polished heels closing the distance in seconds. She dropped straight to her knees on the dirty concrete, completely ignoring the expensive fabric of her tailored pantsuit. Without hesitation, she stripped off her dark suit jacket and quickly wrapped it tightly around Tobin’s trembling, freezing shoulders.

"Mom!" Tobin cried out, instantly throwing his small arms around her neck. He buried his dirty, tear-streaked face into her silk blouse. "Mommy, you came!"

"I'm here, baby. I'm right here," Alessandra murmured fiercely, pulling him into her chest. She kissed the top of his head, her eyes scanning his torn clothes and bruised knees. "Who did this to you? What happened?"

Tobin pulled back slightly, his tiny body still wracked with violent, exhausted hiccups. He pointed a trembling finger toward his father, who was standing frozen in pure terror near Vanessa and Sybil.

"Mom… Dad helped Grandma pack my room," Tobin cried, his voice breaking horribly. "They put all my clothes in the box. Grandma said Vanessa's son gets my bed now. They told me I had to stay down here in the dark."

Alessandra’s hands stopped moving. The warmth she had poured into her son vanished entirely, replaced by a cold, calculating, and utterly lethal stillness. She slowly turned her head, looking over her shoulder at the group standing near the luggage carts.

Gavin physically took a step backward, his face draining of all color. He raised his hands defensively, his expensive tuxedo suddenly looking like a cheap costume.

"Alessandra, listen to me," Gavin stammered, his voice pitching high with panic. "It's a misunderstanding. Sybil was just... we were organizing things. The boy is exaggerating."

Alessandra didn't say a word. She simply stared at him, her eyes turning into dark pits of absolute murder.
