Chapter 3

Owen swung first. He threw a heavy, aggressive right hook aimed directly at Vittorio’s jaw, throwing all his weight behind the expensive tailoring of his suit.

Vittorio’s reaction was instantaneous and fluid. He didn't just block the punch; he slipped to the outside of the strike with the effortless grace of a seasoned predator. The displaced air brushed his cheek. Before Owen could recover his balance or retract his arm, Vittorio pivoted his hips and drove one explosive, bone-shattering counterpunch straight across Owen’s face.

The crack of knuckles meeting cheekbone echoed through the pristine acoustic architecture of the concert hall.

Owen was lifted entirely off his feet. He spun violently backward, blood spraying from his split lip across the clean white marble. His heavy frame crashed directly into a freestanding acoustic panel positioned near the entrance.

The tall wooden panel toppled under his weight, smashing backward into a towering mahogany sheet-music cabinet. The impact was catastrophic. Thick folders burst from the open shelves, raining thousands of pages of crisp white sheet music into the air like a sudden blizzard. Heavy metal music stands collapsed across the carpet in a tangle of iron and brass. Owen crashed hard into the debris, groaning in agony as the lightweight frames and wooden panels collapsed entirely over his bleeding body.

The guests gasped in synchronized horror, stepping back into the bright, airy corridors to escape the violence.

Bianca shrieked. Her eyes went wide with panic as her husband went down. Blinded by rage and humiliation, she lunged not at Vittorio, but at the weakest target in the room. She grabbed the rubber handle of Nico’s wheelchair, her manicured nails digging into the grip as she tried to violently pull the child away.

"You animal!" Bianca screamed.

Vittorio turned. His left hand shot out like an iron clamp, seizing Bianca’s wrist. He tore her hand free from the wheelchair with a brutal, wrenching twist that forced a gasp from her lungs.

Then, with his right hand, Vittorio delivered one thunderous, open-handed slap across her face.

The sound was deafening. Bianca spun backward, her diamond earrings catching the light as she lost her balance. She crashed blindly into a folded banquet-chair trolley staged by the wall.

The metal trolley tipped sideways with a massive metallic screech. Dozens of folded steel chairs cascaded onto the carpet in a chaotic avalanche. Heavy leather instrument cases slid from a nearby bench, crashing to the floor. Bianca dropped helplessly beside the scattered equipment, clutching her rapidly swelling, rosy cheek in sheer disbelief.

Vittorio stood amidst the wreckage. His tailored suit was unruffled, his breathing perfectly even. He reached down and rested a protective, tattooed hand on Nico’s shoulder.

He looked directly at Bianca and Owen, his gaze filled with absolute, unyielding ice.

"I’ve got a little lesson for you too," Vittorio said, his voice dead calm.

Bianca looked up through her tangled hair. Her face, moments ago filled with arrogant malice, suddenly became completely, paralyzingly frightened.
