Chapter 10

The dawn broke over the estate with a quiet, luminous brilliance, the bright, airy morning light filtering through the high, reinforced windows of the mansion's upper floors. The bunker doors unsealed with a heavy, metallic hiss, and Alistair led June and Luke back up into the grand foyer.
The chaos of the previous night had been meticulously scrubbed away by his loyal staff. The shattered crystal and broken porcelain were gone, the damaged walnut paneling covered, and the ivory walls wiped clean. The mansion had returned to its state of elegant warmth, though an undeniable tension still lingered in the air.
Alistair stood in the center of the foyer, his tailored dark suit replaced by fresh, immaculate clothing. He looked movie-star handsome, the extremely short stubble on his jaw perfectly trimmed, his thick hair swept back. He was a king standing in his restored castle.
"Are you hungry, Luke?" Alistair asked, looking down at his son.
"Yes, Daddy," Luke nodded, rubbing his sleepy eyes. He looked up at June, who was still wearing her sophisticated black maid dress, though it was wrinkled from sleeping in the bunker.
"Will you take him to the kitchen and ask the chef to prepare whatever he desires?" Alistair asked June, his deep voice gentle.
"Of course, Mr. Crowe," June smiled, taking the boy's small hand in hers.
As they walked away, the heavy front doors of the mansion opened. Marcus stepped inside, his tactical gear dusted with the remnants of the morning's brutal work.
"Is the Waverly syndicate dismantled?" Alistair asked, his cold eyes locking onto his head of security.
"Yes, Boss," Marcus reported grimly. "Arthur Waverly is dead. We hit his main compound at dawn. His lieutenants have surrendered and pledged loyalty to you. The territory is ours."
"And Selene?" Alistair asked, the name tasting like ash in his mouth.
"She has been handed over to our associates in the south," Marcus stated. "She will never be seen in this city again."
"Will you ensure the men receive a substantial bonus for their efficiency today?" Alistair asked, adjusting his wristwatch.
"Right away, sir."
Marcus bowed respectfully and exited the foyer, leaving Alistair alone in the bright, golden morning light. The war had been swift, devastating, and absolute. He had protected his empire, but more importantly, he had protected his blood.
He walked slowly toward the kitchen, his polished leather shoes echoing softly on the marble floors. He stopped in the doorway, observing the scene within.
June was sitting at a small, sunlit table, her elegant posture relaxed as she laughed softly at something Luke had said. The boy was happily eating a plate of pancakes, his rosy cheeks full of life and joy. The terrifying shadow of Selene was completely gone, replaced by a radiant, genuine warmth.
Alistair leaned his powerful shoulders against the doorframe, watching the beautiful woman who had risked everything for his son. The artistic tattoos on his hands flexed slightly as he crossed his arms over his chest.
"Do you believe you could get used to sitting at the table instead of serving it?" Alistair asked quietly, announcing his presence.
June looked up, her expressive brows lifting in a bright, breathtaking smile. The morning light caught the delicate structure of her cheekbones, making her look absolutely radiant.
"I think I could learn, Mr. Crowe," June answered softly, her American accent melodic and clear.
"Will you allow me to show you the rest of your new life?" Alistair asked, stepping into the kitchen and closing the distance between them.
He offered his tattooed hand to her. June looked at his outstretched fingers, then up into his perceptive, commanding eyes. She placed her hand in his, feeling the undeniable, electric connection that promised a future far more dangerous, and far more beautiful, than she had ever imagined.
May you like
"I will," June whispered.
"Shall we begin?" Alistair asked, leading her out of the kitchen and into the luminous, limitless possibilities of their new world.
