Chapter 14

I brought every senior Thorne capo into the library.
Not for a vote.
For truth.
Isabella hated it immediately.
“You’re turning family business into theater.”
I looked at her.
“No.”
Then toward Khloe and Elena.
“You did that.”
The recordings played first.
West gallery.
Terrace chair.
Foundation suite.
Then Elena spoke about the parking garage.
Victor confirmed the winter apartment.
Nobody interrupted.
That mattered.
Isabella had spent years controlling how information reached powerful men.
Now she had to watch it arrive without her editing it.
One old capo looked at me.
“Anthony knew?”
“Yes.”
“And protected her?”
Elena answered before I could.
“He used her.”
Silence.
That distinction changed the room.
My father had benefited from Isabella’s ruthlessness while it served him.
He had not loved her enough to protect her.
He rewarded usefulness.
Isabella looked around at the old men.
“You all came to me for favors.”
Nobody denied it.
“You all used information I gave you.”
Still silence.
“And now you sit there pretending I’m some monster because Marcus married a fragile woman?”
Khloe laughed softly.
Isabella turned.
“What?”
Khloe looked at her.
“I’m still here.”
That was all.
It landed harder than shouting.
Isabella had spent months trying to make Khloe disappear through fear, injury, grief, or doubt.
Khloe was still here.
Pregnant.
Calm.
Beside me.
Adrian was here too.
Elena too.
Everyone Isabella had tried to push outside the family now occupied the same room.
I looked around.
“My father built power by hiding bloodlines.”
Then at Isabella.
“She built power by controlling who knew them.”
I placed the phone on the table.
“That ends today.”
Isabella smiled bitterly.
“You think truth makes people loyal?”
I shook my head.
“No.”
May you like
“It gives them the chance to choose.”
That was the thing she had always feared.
