Chapter 6

The question hung in the bright, golden air like an executioner's blade. It was not a question born of curiosity; it was a deadly demand for a confession, dripping with the absolute promise of retribution.

The silence in the grand drawing room became a physical pressure. Sabrina stared back at Ronan, her chest heaving violently beneath her loosely draped emerald gown. The cinematic lighting left absolutely no shadows for her lies to hide within.

Sabrina briefly avoided Ronan’s eyes, her gaze darting frantically toward the capos and donors who had witnessed the exchange. She saw the disgust and shock on their faces. She realized in a fraction of a second that there was no coming back from this. The physical evidence was in the hands of a six-year-old, and the verbal testimony had been delivered. To deny it now would only make her look weak and pathetic.

If she was going to burn, she was going to burn like a queen.

Sabrina stopped gripping her evening clutch. She took a slow, deliberate breath, steadying her trembling shoulders. She lifted her chin, meeting Ronan’s terrifying gaze with an arrogant, unyielding pride. She stripped away the polished, sweet facade, exposing the cruel, calculating monster beneath.

She answered softly, with deliberate, chilling composure.

"A baby kept your attention."

The admission was a knife to the chest of the entire syndicate. The sheer, sociopathic calmness with which she delivered the confession sent a fresh wave of horror through the room. She had manipulated the head of the Vale family, played upon his desire for an heir, and secured a billion-dollar alliance through a piece of silicone.

Ronan’s jaw tightened slightly, the very short stubble on his face bristling with suppressed, explosive violence. The artistic tattoos on his hands flexed as his fists clenched at his sides. He did not yell. He did not reach for a weapon. His restraint was a masterclass in terror.

He moved with absolute, predatory grace. He stepped decisively forward, inserting his broad-shouldered frame directly into the medium wide space beside Elora and Mia. He placed his body entirely between Sabrina and both witnesses, creating an impenetrable physical shield of masculine authority.

Mia, completely unaware of the massive, deadly betrayal unfolding above her, continued happily adjusting Teddy’s borrowed tummy, her small hands pulling at the straps.

Ronan held Sabrina’s gaze. The cold, unwavering stare promised absolute, undeniable destruction. As she looked into the eyes of the man she had deceived, Sabrina’s composed smile finally disappeared, replaced by a mask of raw, undeniable fear.
