Chapter 6

The ringing silence in the grand dining room was profound, punctuated only by the pathetic, ragged gasps coming from Marcus on the floor. The bright, elegant video colors of the room—the sapphire of Celeste's gown, the emerald drapes, the stark white table linens—framed the total, devastating physical dismantling of the betrayal.

Dante stood in the center of the room, his chest rising and falling with slow, perfectly controlled breaths. He flexed the fingers of his right hand, the gold signet ring catching the bright chandelier light.

He turned his back on the traitors and knelt down on the carpet. He reached out with profound, heartbreaking gentleness and lifted the weeping three-year-old into his arms. Ava buried her face securely into his neck, her small hands gripping the lapels of his dark three-piece suit.

"I've got you, my angel," Dante murmured, his raspy voice thick with a warm, protective paternal love. "You are safe. Daddy is right here."

He stood up, keeping Ava securely shielded against his chest. He turned his imposing, deeply masculine frame back toward the center of the room. He looked from his weeping wife, pressed against the dining table, to his broken brother, bleeding on the carpet.

Dante’s face twisted with extreme anger. The terrifying, cold-blooded executioner was fully unmasked, his eyes burning with an apocalyptic, dark fire.

"You brought this poison... into my home," Dante said.

His voice was a low, menacing whisper that vibrated through the floorboards. The slow, controlled cadence of his words felt heavier than physical blows. Every syllable sounded measured, cold, and dripping with an absolute, lethal promise.

"You laid your hands... on my daughter," Dante continued, his gaze shifting to Marcus. "And you... slept in my bed." He turned his cold eyes back to Celeste.

The two bodyguards standing directly behind Celeste shifted their weight, a silent reminder that she was entirely surrounded.

"Choose," Dante commanded softly.

The single word hung in the bright, cinematic air, heavy and absolute.

"Choose?" Celeste choked out, her fair skin completely drained of color, her aristocratic facade entirely shattered.

"Only one of you... sees tomorrow," Dante declared, his voice devoid of any human empathy or mercy.

On the floor, clutching his shattered ribs, Marcus froze. Celeste stopped breathing. The two lovers slowly turned their heads, exchanging a terrified, horrifying glance. The ultimate, sadistic test of their betrayal had just been laid bare in front of the entire syndicate. They were trapped in a nightmare of their own making, and the king was demanding a blood sacrifice.
