Chapter 4

The tension in the brightly lit dining hall escalated into a highly combustible, physical weight. Marcus Caruso remained frozen in his chair, his fair, rosy face entirely drained of blood. The forty-eight-year-old capo stared at the gold cufflink resting in his older brother's palm. The custom engraving was a signature, an undeniable confession cast in solid gold.
Driven by sheer, blind panic and a complete collapse of rational thought, Marcus made the final, fatal mistake of his life.
Instead of remaining silent, instead of denying the accusation, Marcus suddenly pushed his chair back. The heavy wood screeched violently against the floor. He stood up, his tailored suit shifting as he reached a desperate, trembling hand across the mahogany table toward Dante.
"Give it back," Marcus stammered, his American accent cracking into a high-pitched, pathetic frequency. The panic in his eyes was unadulterated and absolute. "It’s mine."
The entire table goes silent.
If there had been any lingering sliver of doubt, any desperate hope that the child was mistaken, Marcus had just brutally extinguished it. He had claimed the evidence. He had confirmed the treason.
The white American guests, the hardened capos, and the elite bodyguards stared in wide-eyed horror. To sleep with the wife of the Boss was a death sentence. To do it as his own brother was an act of profound, suicidal madness.
Dante slowly raised his eyes from the cufflink in his palm. His cold, intimidating gaze traveled across the pristine white tablecloth, past the crystal wine glasses, and locked directly onto his younger brother.
The look on Dante’s face was devoid of human empathy, warmth, or forgiveness. It was the look of a butcher assessing a carcass. The deep, masculine power radiating from him completely paralyzed Marcus, who stood trembling with his hand still foolishly extended over the table.
"It is yours," Dante whispered.
His voice was a low, vibrating hum that echoed clearly across the silent room. The controlled pauses between his words carried a catastrophic weight.

Celeste let out a sharp, breathless sob, pressing her hands over her mouth as the reality of her total, irreversible ruin crashed down upon her. She had played a dangerous, arrogant game, believing her beauty and status made her untouchable. But looking at the terrifying stillness of her husband, she realized she had willingly walked into her own grave.
Dante did not break eye contact with Marcus. He slowly closed his fist around the gold cufflink, the sharp edges biting into his palm. The time for diplomacy had ended.
