Chapter 6

Four massive, heavily armed enforcers stepped into the opulent, brightly lit dining hall. They wore tailored dark suits that matched their boss's, their faces impassive and cold. The natural, cinematic lighting caught the steel of their weapons as they moved swiftly toward the head table.
Juliette gasped, taking a frantic step backward, her high heels clicking loudly against the cream marble floor. "Victor, what are you doing? Tell them to stand down! My family will not tolerate this!"
"Your family," Victor said slowly, stepping away from the table and approaching her, "is currently enjoying a Christmas Eve dinner across the city. They have no idea that their daughter is a human trafficker. And when I send them the evidence of your transaction, they will disown you to save themselves from federal prison."
"You are lying!" Juliette shrieked, her fair skin turning a splotchy, panicked red. "They will go to war for me! The Voss syndicate will burn this mansion to the ground!"
"Let them try," Victor replied quietly. He looked at the lead enforcer. "Take her."
The two largest guards moved in instantly. They grabbed Juliette by the arms, their large hands completely ignoring the luxurious, expensive fabric of her burgundy velvet gown. She thrashed wildly, kicking and screaming, her diamond earrings swinging like violent pendulums.
"Get your hands off me, you filthy animals!" Juliette roared, her American accent cracking into a hysterical screech. "I am Juliette Voss! I am going to be the lady of this house! Victor, call them off!"
"Take her to the holding cells in the sub-basement," Victor commanded, his deep voice carrying absolute, terrifying authority over her screams. "Ensure she is stripped of all jewelry, phones, and anything she could use to harm herself. She will remain in complete isolation until I have the child back."
"You are a dead man, Victor!" Juliette wailed as they dragged her backward across the marble floor. "You hear me? You are a dead man!"
Victor did not flinch. He watched her struggle with a cold, unwavering stare, his artistic tattoos stark against the white cuffs of his shirt as he crossed his arms over his broad chest.
"We will see," Victor murmured.
The heavy oak doors slammed shut, instantly cutting off Juliette’s frantic screams. The grand dining hall was plunged back into a profound, ringing silence, save for the soft weeping of Ruth Bennett. The towering Christmas tree continued to sparkle with warm fairy lights, a surreal, festive backdrop to the brutal mafia justice that had just been executed.
Victor let out a slow, controlled breath. He unbuttoned his suit jacket, rolling his shoulders to release the coiled tension. He turned his attention back to the elderly grandmother sitting at his table.
"Mrs. Bennett," Victor said, his voice softening considerably as he approached her. He reached into his pocket, pulling out a pristine white handkerchief, and gently offered it to her. "I give you my word as the head of this family. I will not sleep, and my men will not rest, until your granddaughter is safely returned to you."

Ruth took the handkerchief with trembling fingers. "Thank you, Mr. Harrington. Thank you."
"Do not thank me yet," Victor said grimly. "I must find out who she sold Poppy to."
