Chapter 16

Bianca lost every Bellandi privilege before sunrise.

No house access.

No crews.

No bodyguards.

No family channels.

Marco lost the same.

The compromised captains were removed from command.

Elias stayed under restriction.

Not forgiven.

Not discarded either.

He had to rebuild what he broke.

Bianca laughed when I told her.

“You’re destroying an alliance over three toddlers and a waitress.”

Elena stood beside me.

Hannah beside Samuel.

My daughters behind them.

I looked at Bianca.

“No.”

“What?”

“You destroyed it when you thought people without power didn’t matter.”

She sneered at Hannah.

“She’s still a waitress.”

Lily immediately reached for Hannah.

Bianca saw.

I said:

“And somehow she became more important to my daughters than you did.”

That ended her smile.

Marco tried one last time.

“You need us.”

“No.”

“You need Wainwright access.”

“No.”

“You need stability.”

I almost laughed.

“I need fewer people saying that word.”

They were taken away.

Not beaten.

Not disappeared.

Just removed from the system they tried to control.

Later, Elena sat with the triplets.

Slowly.

Grace watched her.

Emma stayed near Hannah.

Lily climbed into my lap.

Elena didn’t force anything.

That mattered.

She looked at Hannah.

“Please don’t leave because I’m back.”

Hannah’s eyes filled.

“I don’t want to take your place.”

“You didn’t.”

Elena smiled sadly.

“You kept it warm.”

Hannah cried.

So did I.

Samuel sat across from us eating soup like a man who had forgotten what kitchens were for.

The girls stared at him.

“Grandpa?” Lily asked.

Hannah laughed through tears.

“No.”

Samuel smiled.

“Samuel is fine.”

Emma handed him bread.

He took it carefully.

Food.

Freely given.

No title demanded first.

No affection traded for it.

That night, Grace woke crying.

Hannah reached the doorway at the same time Elena did.

Both stopped.

Elena looked at her.

“Go.”

Hannah hesitated.

“She calls for you when she’s scared.”

Elena’s voice broke.

“I know.”

No jealousy.

No punishment.

Just truth.

Hannah went in.

Elena sat outside the room and cried silently.

May you like

I sat beside her.

Neither of us pretended two stolen years could be repaired in one night.
