Chapter 6

The devastation along the edge of the grand ballroom looked like the aftermath of an explosion. The twisted, ruined remains of the long silver banquet console lay in a chaotic heap, surrounded by a massive perimeter of shattered crystal, spilled wine, and scattered silver serving domes. Preston lay entirely motionless within the wreckage, his chest heaving with shallow, agonizing gasps as he stared blankly up at the ornate ceiling, utterly defeated and broken.

The hundreds of elite guests, hardened capos, and heavily armed bodyguards remained absolutely paralyzed, locked in a state of terrified awe. No one moved to help the bleeding man. No one dared to even whisper. The absolute, unyielding power Imani wielded had just been physically manifested in the complete destruction of her husband.

Imani stood entirely still amidst the silent chaos. Her breathing was perfectly controlled, her chest rising and falling in a steady, calm rhythm. Despite the violent, explosive combat she had just engaged in, her elegant, voluminous locs remained perfectly pinned up. Her striking crimson velvet evening gown was damp at the hem from the spilled fountain water, but she still looked like a terrifying, untouchable queen.

She slowly raised her left hand, the diamonds of her chandelier earrings catching the flickering candlelight as she moved. Her fingers brushed against the heavy, expensive diamond wedding ring on her left hand—the ring Preston had given her, the symbol of an alliance that had just been permanently severed by his arrogance and cruelty.

With slow, deliberate precision, Imani slid the heavy diamond ring off her finger.

The small piece of jewelry felt heavy, utterly meaningless now in the palm of her hand. She didn't look at it with regret. She looked at it with the cold calculation of a general cutting a total loss.

Imani took a slow, measured step forward, the sharp click of her black stiletto echoing loudly against the wet, debris-covered marble floor. She walked past the terrified, trembling form of Constance, completely ignoring the older woman’s stifled sobs, and stopped directly in front of the wreckage of the silver banquet console.

Preston managed to turn his head slightly, his bloodshot, terrified eyes looking up at the woman he had completely underestimated. Blood trickled steadily from his nose, mixing with the water soaking his custom-tailored midnight blue tuxedo.

Imani looked down at him, her beautiful, glowing dark brown face a mask of absolute, unforgiving ice. She didn't raise her hand to strike him again. She simply flicked her wrist.

She hurled the heavy diamond wedding ring hard against Preston’s soaking-wet chest. The ring struck him right over his heart with a sharp, distinct crack before bouncing off and landing somewhere among the shattered porcelain and spilled wine.

"You kicked my mother," Imani stated. Her voice was quiet, barely above a whisper, but it carried a lethal frequency that promised absolute destruction. It was not a threat; it was an execution order. "Now crawl out of my house."

Preston stared up at her in utter shock, his mouth opening and closing soundlessly as the reality of his total ruin finally crashed down upon him. He had just been violently expelled from the most powerful syndicate in the city, stripped of his marriage, his protection, and his dignity.

Imani didn't wait for him to move. She slowly turned her back on him, dismissing him entirely from her presence and her life.

CUT.
