Chapter 10

The night sky over the city was violently illuminated by the bright, chaotic flashes of gunfire and the glowing orange infernos of burning warehouses. The elegant, cinematic colors of the Montelli estate felt like a distant dream amidst the smoke and blood of the front lines. The war had escalated from a targeted purge into a full-scale, apocalyptic battle for control of the eastern seaboard.

Alistair Montelli stood behind the armored door of a black SUV, the vehicle pockmarked with bullet holes. The street outside the heavily fortified Vale compound was a war zone. White American mercenaries hired by the Chicago syndicate exchanged relentless, heavy automatic fire with Alistair’s loyal capos.

"We are pinned down, Boss!" the lead capo yelled over the deafening roar of the firefight, slamming a fresh magazine into his rifle. "Chicago brought heavy artillery! If we don't breach the gates soon, the police will mobilize the tactical units!"

Alistair did not flinch. He wore tactical body armor over his dress shirt, the artistic tattoos on his neck and arms exposed to the night air. His handsome, angular face was smeared with dust and sweat, but his cold, penetrating eyes remained dead calm, calculating the battlefield with the precision of a master tactician.

"They are concentrating their fire on the main gate," Alistair observed, his deep voice carrying a terrifying authority that anchored his panicking men. "They believe we are attempting a frontal assault. They are arrogant."

He reached into the SUV and pulled out a heavy, customized assault rifle, checking the chamber with practiced, lethal efficiency.

"Signal the secondary teams," Alistair commanded, looking at his lieutenant. "Tell them to detonate the charges on the western wall. We are going to flank them while they are looking down the barrel."

"Yes, Mr. Montelli!" the capo shouted into his encrypted radio.

Ten seconds later, a massive, earth-shaking explosion ripped through the night. The western concrete wall of the Vale compound disintegrated in a brilliant flash of bright video colors, sending a shockwave of dust and debris over the battlefield.

The sudden, catastrophic breach threw the Chicago mercenaries into total disarray. Their sustained fire faltered as they desperately tried to pivot to meet the new threat.

"Now," Alistair roared, his deeply masculine voice shaking the very air.

He stepped out from behind the armored SUV, walking directly into the chaotic, bright lights of the firefight. He didn't run; he advanced with a slow, terrifying, predatory grace. He raised his weapon and fired with absolute, flawless precision, dropping targets as he marched toward the burning ruins of his enemies' empire.

His men surged forward behind him, emboldened by the unstoppable, god-like presence of their leader. The gates were breached. The compound fell in a matter of minutes.

Alistair walked through the smoke-filled courtyard, stepping over the fallen bodies of the men who had dared to protect the family that murdered his wife. He approached the massive front doors of the Vale mansion, kicking them open with a single, powerful strike.

The opulent foyer of the rival estate was dark, save for the emergency lights. Standing at the top of the grand staircase, trembling violently, was the patriarch of the Vale family. The man who had ordered the hit on Sadie’s mother. The man who had tried to buy an empire with the blood of an innocent woman.

"Alistair!" the older man screamed, dropping his weapon and raising his hands in sheer, unadulterated terror. "We can make a deal! I'll give you everything! The ports, the money, everything!"

Alistair slowly raised his weapon, his cold, intimidating eyes locking onto the man who had destroyed his family. The memory of the freezing water pouring over his weeping daughter flashed in his mind.

"I already have everything," Alistair whispered, his voice echoing in the silent, ruined hall.

He pulled the trigger, ensuring the debt was paid in full. The war for vengeance was won, but as Alistair turned to walk out of the burning compound, his radio crackled with a frantic, desperate transmission from his own estate. A new, terrifying voice spoke through the static, promising that the nightmare was far from over. The real war had just begun.
