Chapter 10

The convoy of armored black SUVs tore through the dark city streets, a silent, deadly serpent winding its way toward the Hale family compound in the affluent northern suburbs. Vittorio sat in the back of the lead vehicle, his tailored three-piece suit impeccable, a suppressed matte-black pistol resting comfortably in his lap. The cinematic lighting from the passing streetlamps cast sharp, intermittent flashes across his angular face.

"Two minutes to the target," the driver announced, his American accent tense.

"Remember the orders," Vittorio spoke into the encrypted radio channel, his voice broadcasting to every strike team across the city. "Synchronized breach. No hesitation. Leave nothing but ashes."

The SUVs killed their headlights as they approached the massive, wrought-iron gates of the Hale estate. The compound was heavily fortified, but Marcus had given up the security bypass codes an hour ago.

"Gates are opening," Elias confirmed from the passenger seat as the heavy iron swung inward without a sound.

The vehicles glided into the courtyard. Before the Hale perimeter guards could even register the intrusion, suppressed gunfire erupted from the SUVs. The guards dropped silently to the manicured lawns.

"Go," Vittorio commanded.

Dozens of Romano soldiers poured out of the vehicles, swarming the massive mansion. They breached the front doors with explosive charges, the deafening blast shattering the quiet night.

Vittorio walked through the smoke and splintered wood, his pistol raised. The foyer of the Hale estate erupted into absolute chaos. Hale soldiers, caught completely off guard, scrambled from their quarters, returning frantic, disorganized fire.

Vittorio moved with terrifying, methodical precision. He did not seek cover. He advanced slowly, firing double-taps into the chest of any man who raised a weapon. His cold, intimidating eyes tracked every movement, his jawline locked in stone. The bright, cinematic flashes of gunfire illuminated his deeply masculine face, transforming him into an angel of death.

"Clear the first floor!" Elias roared, leading a squad down the main corridor.

Vittorio ignored the firefight around him and headed straight for the grand staircase. He knew exactly where Don Hale would be.

He climbed the stairs, stepping over a fallen guard. He reached the heavy mahogany doors of the master suite and kicked them open with a brutal display of strength.

Don Hale, a man in his sixties, was desperately trying to load a shotgun near his bed. When he saw Vittorio Romano standing in the doorway, he froze, his face draining of all color.

"Romano," Hale breathed, his hands shaking. "You're insane. The Commission will kill you for this."

"The Commission," Vittorio whispered, stepping into the room and raising his pistol, "will thank me for removing a liability."

"Why?" Hale demanded, raising his hands. "Over a broken engagement? We can negotiate!"

"You cannot negotiate for the soul of my daughter," Vittorio said, his voice dropping to a freezing, absolute zero.

He squeezed the trigger. The suppressed weapon coughed, and Don Hale collapsed onto the expensive carpet, dead before he hit the floor.

Vittorio stood over the body, his breathing steady and controlled. He pulled his smartphone from his pocket. It was exactly 12:05 AM.

"Elias," Vittorio said into the phone.

"The compound is secured, Boss. No survivors," Elias reported, the sounds of distant sirens echoing in the background. "The other teams report success across the city. The Hale infrastructure is gone."

"Burn it," Vittorio commanded softly. "Burn the house down."

He turned and walked out of the master suite, the flames of his vengeance already beginning to consume the mansion. The war was over in a single night. He had protected his bloodline and secured his empire. But as he walked out into the cool night air, staring at the burning ruins of his enemy's legacy, Vittorio knew that power this absolute always demanded a higher price. The throne was his, but the shadows were growing deeper.
